Hi Laura!

You might also try the "Missing Link" food supplement powder.

You can purchase it through Drs. Foster & Smith, and soem other animal supply
websites.

OR, the veterinary formula is even better, which I believe, you have to get
through a vet.

Hi Laurie. This little girl is very sick. I know you probably know this but
as a general rule once a FeLV-positive cat gets sick they generally do not
return to a "normal" state of health again. And this cat is sick - her
bloodwork is horrible. It looks like your vet is doing everything possible to
boost her immune system and get her fever to abate. Prednisone will possibly
keep her comfortable for awhile - (which probably should become the primary
goal). If Isabella feels better on the prednisone then I would keep her on it.
I think doxycycline is probably worth trying - it can cause anorexia but my
experience with it has been good (if the medicine is given with water and dosed
correctly). It would not hurt to start giving her some supplements in her food
- antioxidants and such. A good supplement would be Vitamin C (250mg daily in
food). I would also start adding a little plain yoghurt & nutritional (torula)
yeast (great source of Vitamin B) to the food. Vitamin B helps stimulate
appetite in addition to many other great things. If Isabella is not already
on a home-made or high quality food (Wellness, Solid Gold, Newman's Own, etc) I
would immediately put her on such a diet. I would recommend feeding her the
canned form instead of dry food. And I would do whatever is possible to keep
her life stress-free.

RE: SNAP test and IFAs

2007-07-05 Thread Melissa Lind
Hi Laura,

Well, I just had the SNAP test done before I read your post-it was negative.
Ashley was tested in April with ELIZA (neg) and now in July neg. with SNAP,
so I hope these are good signs. I may have an IFA done when she goes back in
10 days for a checkup, but it's $50, and I'm not sure I can afford that
right now. Ashley is just under a year old, we're guessing.

The disease I couldn't think of the name before is Feline odontoclastic
resorptive lesions (FORLs). I haven't had much time to research it, but
here's the wikipedia entry if anyone is interested:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feline_odontoclastic_resorptive_lesion

If anyone has info or experience with this, would you please send me some
advice? Ashley's disease can't be confirmed without dental x-rays, and my
vet's office doesn't have the right x-ray machines yet, so we're going to
keep an eye on it. If I have to drive further for an x-ray, I will. If you
know of any lists that deal with this specifically, please let me know. I
don't want to add too much OT stuff since it's been such an issue lately. I
know I know, I should move this to the OT list. Maybe I'll just start
checking both lists at work.

Hi Melissa,

At the sanctuary where I work, all Felv cats are tested with both SNAP and
IFA tests. And because of that, we occasionally get a few cats that test
faint positive in the SNAP and negative for the IFA. Then they go home with
me, because they're kind of in limbo. That's why I joined this list: I'd
like to know if anyone else has a bipolar cat, as they call them, and what
to expect regarding life expectancy, etc.

Anyway, with regard to your cat, I'd go for the IFA test, just to be sure.
It would be good to know your cat is completely negative (and cause for
major congratulations). Is she a young cat? Sometimes they seroconvert in
the first 18 months. It's supposed to be rare, but I've seen it happen.

Hobbs is an orangish tabby, probably more "buff" colored.

Orange tabbies are the best

I did see him 3 times on the 4th.

Maybe he was Liberating himself form under the couch in the cat room.

All I saw was his butt, though, scampering back under the couch when he saw
me... :(

He is living under there w/ Foxy Brown (she's the foxiest brown in town).

She is a long furred tortie that was thrown out of a car onto a busy highway
here in Austin a few years back.

She was rescued by a policeman, but was injured pretty bad.

She has never quite gotten over her fear.

I came here four weeks ago with a kitten suffering from giardia,
