Re: Whitey, Day 8

2007-10-22 Thread catatonya
Sounds like he's doing well. I don't know that there's anything you can do
about his breath besides wait until he has the teeth removed. I have a cat in
that same situation and my vet didn't recommend doing anything to his mouth
until he's better and can have the dental. I removed all carpet from my entire
house, and I love it! Whitey Boy is in good hands!

Ok, guys, we're starting day 8 in Whitey's intervention. Boy is doing much
better. He's actually able to walk now without falling over. He's still
wobbly, but walking. Still taking his Baytril, and no signs of pupil dilation
or diarrhea yet (one week into treatment, one week to go). We're making
progress. His coat looks better every day. Still a bit rough and brittle
but SO much better than it was a week ago! Progress. :)

He's eating a variety of high-protein foods. I stopped Friday and got several
varieties (Wellness, Solid Gold, Purina ProPlan Kitten formula, Science Diet
Kitten Formula, Innova EVO, and Sheba to name a few I can remember) all of
which have a protein content between 11%-13.5%(Solid Gold Tuna). Still doing
pretty well eating two cans a day or so. We're waiting on the FIP results.
But I really just can't imagine he has FIP. He's really making headway. I
think his ear infection was so bad he was almost toxic :( God love him, he
literally couldn't stand up it was so bad. But he's making headway now.

Jeff and I went yesterday and bought new flooring (laminate for ease of
cleaning) and curtains for his sunroom. :) He's gonna be syling! I'll send
pics when its all done!

Now, I need a bit of advice as far as his oral care is concerned. He has the
most horrible breath I've ever smelled. :( Its not normal shew kitty breath
type thing..this literally gags me if he gets too close to my face! Help!
I've also noticed his little teeth are rotten, I can see why the vet needs to
pull them. And we'll get to that when he gets well enough, but my concern
right now is the breath, and the slime. His fang teeth are extremely long,
and kinda stick out of his mouth a little bit even when its closed..and he gets
this slimy stuff around his mouth near his fangs..also he was play nibbling on
my arm yesterday and left all this slimy stuff...yuck! I don't know what it
is, or how to clean his mouth up? Any suggestions? Someone recommended some
stuff on one of these lists, called PetzLife oral care gel. It's very
expensive ($25 a bottle), and while I don't mind to get it if it works, I'd
hate to spend that kind of money on it if it doesn't...so,
have any of you used this product (and how did you apply it), or can you guys
recommend something else that might help clean his mouth up?

RE: Litterboxes/baking soda

2007-10-22 Thread Caroline Kaufmann

Totally OT: But you should look into Lush.com. http://www.lush.com They make
homemade, all-natural, health and beauty products. They have stores in big
cities (they have a store list), but I have to do my shopping online. It is
expensive, but their products are worth it. Great stuff, with minimal
packaging, with a new option to request even less packaging if you want,
(another one of their earth friendly things). Some products are even vegan,
marked with a V symbol by the product. They make deodorant bars (listed
under the link on the left-hand side entitled Close-up.)- some are vegan. I
have never tried them, but they are all-natural (they list the ingredients on
the site so you can check before you buy) and like everything they make, no
doubt work great! This company is wonderful..., definitely try it.

You guys are probably going to think I'm crazy, but I actually use baking soda
for deodorant. I've been trying to find a good deodorant that does not contain
aluminum, which is supposed to be bad for us, and never could. Anything I did
find did not work very well. I was reading online about deodorant because I
began to notice that only my right armpit was having body odor all of a sudden,
when I never have had much before, and read that bacteria can build up and
block your pores. I read that baking soda is a great, safe alternative, and
have been using it for about two months now and am very happy with it. I don't
have that odor anymore, and I don't even have to use it everyday, believe it or
not. I hope I didn't gross anyone out with my TMI, but I think it's a great
alternative if you're looking for one and good info. to pass on. So I'm
assuming it's safe for kitties to mix it in with litter.

Spencer - terrible blood problems - tests negative

2007-10-22 Thread Kristy Prewitt
Hello everyone. My little boy, Spencer, who is only 8 mos old is in dire
straights.

He has been in the vet's care for 2 weeks now with terrible blood numbers. He
has received a whole blood transfusion, plus 2 rounds of plasma.

Still - his RBC, WBC, and platelets are very very low. He has bruising all
over. He is pure white so the bruises are very easy to see.

They will be doing a bone marrow aspiration tomorrow. He has tested negative
for FelV - three times (as a small kitten, and two tests since all this trouble
started).

The vet is a specialist. She believes it is FelV. I'm just wondering why he has
had no other signs - just all of a sudden he started bruising!!!

I am just heartsick. My 13 year old sweetie was euthanized one year ago due to
CRF. Now my new baby, who I am terribly attached to, has something horribly
wrong.

Any insight or comments would be appreciated. And, of course, prayers.

thank you so much.

   Kristy,
You may try posting to the Yahoo PetVet group, there are several
vets on the list and they may have heard or seen this and hopefully be
able to help. You can join the list here:

I hope someone can figure out what is going on with Spencer, he is so
young ...
