2015-09-27 Thread Kelley S
I feel really bad, because I have a healthy cat population room that I live
in with the healthy population cats, and a felv+ room, and no matter how
much time I spend in the felv+ room, it is never enough, and obviously not
as much time as I spend in the healthy population room. I was just about
to mix them, because I had a kitten who is now over a year and has had both
felv shots, but I hadn't yet. I think what I will do is order a condo, and
put her in it for at least a couple of hours a day out front for
observation purposes.

Kelley, I am so, so sorry to hear about Merlin. Thanks for doing your
best and taking care of him as you did. Sometimes love just isn't
enough to keep them here, and they have to move on to the next realm.

I failed him. I did not notice his symptoms in time. Now I have his
"sister" (not blood related" by herself. She is going to be miserable, she
does not like to be alone. I had an appointment for 2 other cats on
Monday. I am switching her out with one of them so that I can get her
completely checked out. Not that heart failure is contagious, but I need
to be more on top of my FELV+ cats, or now, cat. I can't do this anymore,
I don't know how yall do it. I don't have "too many" cats overall, but I
do think I have "too many" to handle many chronically ill (or potentially
chronically ill). I guess any cat is "potentially chronically ill." By
the way, I fell even more in love with this doctor when he told me he had
taken home 2 FELV+ kittens from the clinic and they died before 10 months
old. I read between the lines that someone wanted their FELV+ kittens
euthanized or did not want them when they tested pos.

We have a screen door (yes indoors) so Brynn is not so alone. As well, we are
2, so Jeff is in there (Our office, her suite) with her a lot. BTW, the screen
door has panels on the bottom so no kissy faces.

[Felvtalk] Plan for Coco

2015-09-27 Thread Kelley S
Hi all,

Coco is FELV+ kitty #2. My plan for her so she doesn't feel so alone until
I can bring myself to mix (all other kitties have tested negative, some
multiple times) is to buy a large cat condo and put her in it at least a
couple hours a day out here. Now, what I want to ask yall about is
spaying. She is unsprayed. There is NO chance of her getting out (she'd
have to get out of the FELV room, then out of the basement, then upstairs
then out an exterior door upstairs, which is not going to happen, plus when
we leave we go out the garage door to go out so if anyone WERE to follow us
they'd still just be in the garage). As long as I've had her she has never
seemed to go into heat. If she did it was a silent heat. Is it more
stressful to spay her or more stressful to not spay her?

She is a beautiful medium hair orange girl.

I am going to ask the doctor about Winstrol for her. I am debating taking
her to the holistic vet but she is so expensive here ($400 for an initial
visit). I have her on Standard Process Feline Immune System support 1
tablet 2x day. I am putting a Seresto collar on her if I can keep it on
her We have a bad flea problem here and nothing I am doing is helping. I
have lived all over the south and this is the worst flea problem I've ever
seen. We have tried diatomaceous earth. Advantage doesn't do much at
all. Revolution works for a little while. I have some Advantage spray
which kills adults, larva and eggs to spray on carpeted furniture I am
taking the blankies out of that room and wash them in hot water and dry on
high heat to kill eggsEven our vet does not know what to do. I am
declaring WAR on these flea.

Do not punish yourself too much. We try to do our best and with every loss, we
learn and future cats benefit. You did the best you knew with the knowledge
you had and most of all, you loved him and he knew it.
