I'm
just waiting for the ceramic candlesticks on the mantelpiece to be knocked off
and broken. They came from a boyfriend who turned out to be real nasty so
I shouldn't be too upset if the cats destroy them -- on the other hand they are
nice candlesticks and I've had them a long time. I dragged them all the way
from London. I do feel bad about throwing the plant away. I don't
normally do that. I should have found a new home for it.

I heard a recent crash, but a brief glance
(middle of night, feeling half-drugged) left me none the wiser. Later in week
discovered one of them had knocked a glass vase off the mantelpiece. Amazingly
it survived. Not even a chip. However it had hit a glass lampbowl on the
floor--that did not survive.
Now I discover that all my adult cats have
taken to parading back and forth along the mantelpiece -- one used to do it as a
kitten, but then gave up. One of them has also taken to parading along a high
shelf that goes along two walls in my kitchen. Trouble is, once he's up there he
can't get down. Yells for help at all sorts of weird times. My most precious
vase (sentimental value only-belonged to my favorite aunt) was on that shelf,
supposedly out of harm's way. I've now locked it in a closet.
What's going on---midlife kitty
crisis?

I don't get up for the crashes either (unless it's serious). If

over 100 house plants inside (during winter)..and with 8 cats Ihave never

I don't have any live plants in my house, every time I try,
I end up naming them "Mr. Roughage." So my crew of rocket
scientistsseeks out and chews up *silk* plants, -- but only the ones that
pretend to be spiky grass. I had a sprig of it in a silk arrangement, it
got reduced to nubs within a week, and now what's left of its *replacement* has
found its way into the hobby room, a good 30 feet away from the arrangement in
question.

Oh, and when I hear those late-night or early-morning
horking sounds, I'm not even curious anymore, unless we're specifically keeping
an eye on someone who's barfing a lot. I just make a mental note to watch
my step. Same with fighting. I yell a generic "Hey, you!
Tribble!! Cut it out!!!" because whoever else is involved, Tribble is
always the other party and usually the instigator.

"harrgghhh,
harrrggghhh"
That's
the most common unwanted sound in my house right now. Yep,usually in the
wee small hours too. I always leap out of bed so i can see who it is, but about
50 percent of the time I can't tell.
I'm
cleaning up every day at the moment. Sometimes more than once. One of them once
puked on my hair. This has been going on for a while. It can be any of them.
Yesterday it was Tiger. I believe it happened after he'd been chased
energetically by one of my fosters, and just after he had breakfast. D'you
think that could have been the reason?Three of them have had checkups
during that time and deemed ok. ActuallyI think it's often hairballs that
are the reason. I mix white petroleumjelly in their wet food when I can
bring myself to--I say that because the little stin*ers usually turn their noses
up at it when it's got the jelly in.
After
I discovered the 3rd pool of throw up yesterday (oh yes, and a 4th when i got
home last night) in desperation I threw out my last remaining
plant.

Yeah,
the fighting. I usually yell "Tiger" when I hear a commition coming from the
living room in the early hours. And then feel guilty when (as occasionlly
happens) I see him staring balefullyat mefrom the end of the
bed.

"harrgghhh,

That's
the most common unwanted sound in my house right now.
After
I discovered the 3rd pool of throw up yesterday (oh yes, and a 4th when i got
home last night) in desperation I threw out my last remaining
plant.

Shanghai, who passed away a few years ago at the age of 18, was the consummate barfer. We used to accuse him of bulimia. He'd binge, barf, and come looking for a refill. He ruined a couple of monitors with projectile vomiting. It got to the point that I could hear the preliminary sounds in the middle of the night, get a piece of newspaper under wherever he was going to spew, catch the vomit on the paper, and roll back over and go back to sleep without missing a beat. We have a cat who also did the projectile vomiting thing... she even twisted her intestine on one of her bouts and had to have surgery! Turned out it was a simpleallergy that achange of food made all the difference! Madison is now
VERY happy and vomit free... with the exception of the occasional white hair ball (yuck). She is a beautiful Weegie and we are convinced that her vomiting is why her previous owners turned her out (we got her from Animal Control). Maybe you could allergy test?

at one point, i considered putting the cats into the glass-fronted

and i should have qualified my original note: i, too, will get up for
serious fights or if it sounds like someone's hurt. with more than a

i'd NEVER get any sleep. and with that many long-hairs, stepping in
haiballs is just a given not pleasant, mind you, but expected.

the advantage to having persians of most any age, and older cats in
