Re: Ember's troubles - your thoughts?
Lance, What you are describing sounds like what Lucy has sometimes. It usually means there is a problem in the colon or lower intestines, like colitis. Bowels start normal and end loose. If there is every any red blood on the outside, that is another sign. I would not worry about the flagyl. I was worried about it too, but it always helps Lucy. I have yet to actually hear anyone say it made their cat sick in any way. Lucy has been on it for over 2 months now, every day. It helps her a lot. I would at least do a week's course of it and see. Fwd: test/junior/ferals
Sorry about the test email. I sent one last night from my new address and I don't see that it posted. I am getting emails. Just in case my previous email does not show up. Junior got his meds while I was away at the vet's office. I hated to subject him to the ride 2 days in a row, and Eric almost fell with the cat in his carrier. Eric would not have been able to get up if he had fallen. I never thought about thsi until I saw the posting in the archives about the cats being left at the horse boarding place. Maybe someone can help my sister who is disabled and lives in Manteca, CA. Apparently in these rural bedroom type communities the is no help for feral kitties. At least not that she or I have been able to come up with. SHe is aslo not in a position to trap them, There are no clincis or shelter that we can find who do not euthanize cats. SHe had a colony, not sure how big living under a shed in her back yard. SHe does feed them, bit that is all she can do for them due to her health. Anyone out there in CA who might have ideas. Too many cats too few people who can help. Thanks Sally
RE: test/junior/ferals
I guess the thing is that if she's feeding them but not having them S/N, in her well-meaning way she's adding to the problem. Well-fed cats multiply. Diane R. She needs to contact alley cat allies: http://alleycat.org Phaewryn http://ucat.us The easy way out has a bad reputation. Why would anyone take the hard way out? The door? No thanks, that would be the easy way out. I'm jumping out the window. Quote by: Les U. Knight

HI Phaewryn, I don't think my sister has email. I did not see a phone number on their website. Am I missing it? question
I tend to notice weird stuff. Junior's ears become real thick feeling, and are even shaped funny. I think this happens when he runs a fever, which I am sure is every night. Did anyone else notice this phenomenom? Also are fevers a big concern? I asked my vet about it and it did not seem to be a big concern for her. He eats and except for the eye problem seems to do ok at this time. I will call my sister requarding the Alley cats web site. I am sure she does not have internet at this time. She has been on disability for some time and her money is limited. Thanks for the information Phaewryn. Sally Davis
Re: question
Do you know for sure he has a fever-- are you taking his temp? If so, what does it run? If you are going by how warm he feels, they can feel pretty warm when they have been curled up sleeping. Their normal temp is so much higher than ours that they usually feel warmer than us. Michelle In a message dated 1/12/2007 8:07:04 P.M. Re: question
Never heard of ears swelling due to fever, though an allergic reaction could very well cause both to happen as a result of the allergy. Are you giving him any new ear drops, or using transdermal medicines on his ears? One of my cats has heavier cartilage in his ears than all the others cats I have ever known, they are very thick and very stiff. But they stay that way, it doesn't come and go. Re: question
Michelle To be honest I don't like to take his temp because it does not need the added stress. I know that cat's normal temps are much higher than ours his has been as high as 106.5. That was the day I got the bad news of his FeLV status. It has been that high since then as well. His ears are not always swollen up like this but when they are swollen they are also very warm. Yes maybe it is from being curled up. I just talked with my sister. She just got internet turned on yesterday. I emailed her the link for the cats. She thinks some of the cats are actually neighbors cats. I will try to take junior's temp again to see if it is a fever. First it is time for his glaucoma medicine. Re: question
no to any new drugs. Maybe his ears are thicker, but they seem mishapened as well. He does not get any ear drops. I will watch to see what it does. It is really more weird than a concern. Re: question
You probably know by feel then. But you might want to take his temp once while he is like that so you have a number to go with the way he feels to you. for fevers I would suggest Immuno-regulin, but I think he is already on that, right? Wow I must have missed the phone number, I think I even went to the contact page, maybe not. I live about three hours from where Alley Cat allies is headquartered. Of course my sister lives about 2500 miles from there. Again thanks Sally On 1/12/07, [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: They do have a very big website. Re: question
There are cancers that develop on the ears, but they usually show up as lumps or odd colorations, not just weird kookiness with the ear shape. Maybe he is getting little mild hematomas, but his body is reabsorbing the blood. Re: question
Yes he is on the immuno regulin but only at a maintenace schedule. I don't think he is due back for a couple months. He has been through the protocol. So had Tiny. Tiny never had any visible symptoms of FeLV. (He tested a weak positive.) That is why his death was so unexpected. I think he died of some unrelated problem. He may have had all his life but was nver diagnosed. Maybe a reason for me to feel guilt over his death. I even asked the vet who saw him last summer about his cough and could it be this or that. At the time he had a BAD URI so that was the concern. Of course two months later I am dealing with the death of another cat and 3 cats Felv positive. It was not a good year. I would like to give Junior some quality time. thanks Sally On 1/12/07, [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: You probably know by feel then. They have a national network all across the USA, so they will be able to help her no matter of her location. My family all lives about 2000 miles away. I like it that way, LOL! My mom recently sent me a refrigerator magnet with a big oak tree on it with lots of acorns, it says My family tree is full of nuts LOL! Boy, she got that right!
