IIRC outreachy has no true concept of "admin" everyone is just a mentor
The need for an admin is more a need from our side as some tasks
(which no mentor tends to feel responsible for) need to be done by
someone

mentor agreement information is at:
https://wiki.gnome.org/Outreachy/Agreements

i can probably co admin if wanted, but i do not want to be the primary
admin

I added relatively simple task to the page I will mentor, If nobody
wants to be an admin,
I can, but I need to know what boring paperwork I need to do _before_
I apply for the admin.

Awnsering whenever a program halts or runs forever is
On a turing machine, in general impossible (turings halting problem).
On any real computer, always possible as a real computer has a finite number
of states N, and will either halt in less than N cycles or never halt.

I currently have no ideas in mind.
I myself have a lot of experience with AOSP (Android Open Source), may
be something related to that?
I saw some patches related to MediaCodec API some days back.

if carl thinks this makes sense then it should be added to the Outreachy
page IMHO

I have proposed vp8a/vp9a support. An appropriate qualification task is to
detect the appropriate segment from the AVPacket input in the native ffvp9
or ffvp8 decoder (it's identical in both, so one is enough) and extend the
AVFrame output to contain an empty alpha plane. That patch should go
through a few cycles of review although it's unlikely to be applied by
itself.

However, I'm on vacation and my internet isn't great so I can't edit the
wiki by myself. So for this to work, someone else needs to edit the wiki
for me. I also won't be on IRC much until end of this month.

I'd love to mentor some *easy* project in the Outreachy program
definitely. May be I can even get some students to apply to the
program.

so far the only person doing anything was compn
https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/SponsoringPrograms/Outreachy/2016-12?action=history

I think there are 2 questions that the community needs to awnser

first, should FFmpeg be participating in the december 2016 round
of Outreachy ?

If so, some people need to come forth with projects to mentor.
Ive previously asked people privatly one by one i wont do that this
time its a surprissingly large amount of work and anyone else, even
a non programer could ask / organize this and probably better than i
can, asking people is not by strong side ...
And someone needs to come forth as "Admin"

Second is the question, which project ideas the community wants and
which we do not want.
To me it appeard that there was a disparity between objections to
proojects and suggestions for projects. I think we need more people
suggesting projects and volunteering to mentor than objections against
project ideas

Thanks

PS: keep in mind august 22 is the official deadline for FFmpeg to
join IIUC. We need some project idea with a mentor first before any
potential admin would contact the Outreachy admins for joining i
suspect ...

If you want to help, theres the outreachy ideas page
https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/SponsoringPrograms/Outreachy/2016-12
dates missing, its not even linked from the main page that links to
the other pages
it also lists no project ideas, some developers listed ideas here on
the ML, maybe you can make them actually add the ideas to the page.

so there is alot of very easy and some less easy things that need to
be done to get the page into shape the wiki can be edited by anyone
who registers

Thanks

From the last published SPI report (2016-01-31), this is the available
fund amount (in USD):

   FFmpeg 6,008.31
   FFmpeg (Outreachy) 169.17

Considering that we provided a few refunds and received several
donations you can expect the FFmpeg fund to have more or less the same
amount at the present time.

While the ffis.de fund still contains 9129.56 (EUR).

about trac in general there is:
https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/TracGuide

but simply looking at some existing trac wiki page (by clicking on
"Edit this page" but not changing it just looking at whats there
for various constructs) should explain the trac wiki well enough
to create new pages ...

you can also use the text from "Edit this page" to copy wiki text
to a new page like copying parts of the last outreachy page to a new

If you like you surely can create the next outreachy page from the
previous Outreachy and GSoC page
It would be needed to check that the mentors and admins listed
previously are still able to spend te time & available and that
their projects are still available too.

Also people should be suggested to help improve the page. add projects,
volunteer as mentors, and so on ...

[...]

Awnsering whenever a program halts or runs forever is
On a turing machine, in general impossible (turings halting problem).
On any real computer, always possible as a real computer has a finite number
of states N, and will either halt in less than N cycles or never halt.

Hi everyone!

I'm happy to help with the administrative tasks of this project. As far as
Outreachy goes, I will not be able to fully commit as a participant. I can
help with fundraising, recruitment, and any administrarative tasks that you
would like me to assist with. I would be happy to contribute code, but I
would be limited to 10 hours per week working on small coding projects. I
attempted to familiarise myself with Trac, but there are still some aspects
of it I need guidance with. If there are any documentation available that I
am not aware of, I would be happy to review it.

I look forward to working with each and everyone of you on FFmpeg!

Cheers,
Yayoi
