Re: filmscanners: Trident 4.0 Software
SKID Photography wrote: It looks like we finally found an affordable Howtek (D4500) with the latest Trident 4.0 software. Good choice. Make sure you get the dongle with it. The software will not operate without it. What are users opinions of this software (we are on a Mac, so Aztek is out). Aztek will operate on a Mac, but I have found Trident is just fine. Takes a little time to figure it out though. Wish there was a manual for it. If you know of a manual let me know. And specifically, how does it handle color neg. film? I don't do color neg. I run a E-6 lab and scanning with contract proofing service. The proofing is the only printing I will do. I fought for 35 years to get out of the printing darkroom and at my age I will not go back into printing. If you scan color neg your in the printing business. Hope this helps. Chuck Film Service Inc. The lamp is 3.5mm in diameter and roughly 22.5cm long. There is wires connected on both ends that travels into a 5 pin connector that inserts into the circuit board. Well guess what happened to me this morning. I have a SprintScan 45 Ultra. Turn it on today and set up to do a scan and get the code 6006. Lamp failure. Poloard tells me about 2 weeks repair time. Since I make a good part of my living off of this scanner, my income has just gone down. It's being shipped on monday. Chuck
Re: filmscanners: Nikon 4000ed on mac
I also am using it. But trying to get all the scanners working on the same software. As of now I have Nikonscan 3.1, Poloroidcolor 4.51, Vuescan, Scanmaker 111, Silverfast. As you can see these all take time to learn and master. I use all of them each day to make my living. It would be nice just to work with one program instead of 5. Now Jack you say that you are using Vuescan that has Ice and all the other goodies, or are you using Nikon software? I think I know the answer. There is a reason I asked what I asked. And yes I am aware that Vuescan does not work on a mac with firewire, I was looking for a workaround. chuck Jack Phipps wrote: I'm using a Nikon 4000 as we speak on a Mac G4 with 8.something OS. I wonder -- since at least one user found this to be a problem -- how did you find the edge-of-frame sharpness to be when scanning at 4000dpi? I'm about to purchase one, so I'm especially curious, and don't think that mounting my E6 in glass mounts is a viable solution for me. best from Louisville, KY aa. I'm not happy with my own Epson 1200 output (good though it is, there are spectral anomalies, and I don't know if the dither pattern will interact badly with a fine halftone dot screen). I can't find anywhere - I have tried dye sub (too soft) and a local co. who have a posh Noritsu dig printer which outputs onto proper paper, but that manages to posterise skin tones - an admitted deficiency of the printer according to the lab, not my scans. It's all very, very frustrating:( Tony , try to find someone who has a Fuji printer, the guys I do work for sometimes have the same problems you are having. It's just with a few printers though, most of the printers around here have accepted the fact that they are not going to get the scan work all the time. Though there is nothing wrong with your scans some of the printers have a vested intrest in making your scans look bad. (Those scans you get from photographers arn't any good.) The printers like to scan off the Fuji prints. Good Luck Chuck Phelps www.filmserviceinc.com

I have had the PhotoPerfect Advanced and SS4000 working fine before but all of a sudden it's giving me this error. Any thoughts? Thanks, Dave Sure you have made more than 50 scans. I have the same problem, after I have made the 51's scan I get the same message. I have the Master version of Binuscan, I use it on the 45 Ultra. It's a great program, and if I could get it to work I would use it all the time. Don't expect any help from the people at Binuscan though. The problem is on our end, don't you know. Please let me know how you like Binuscan particularly for negatives. I don't do very many negs, but I like it for chromes, As I mentioned before on this list there are a couple of faux pas we made. The SCSI termination swith on scanners haveing serial numbere starting with letters H and below is labled incorrectly. i.e off=on and on=off Don't think I had a problem with this. The instructions for the med format inserts for the film holder tell you to put the insert upside down from what it should be. They must have corrected this before I got this one. The scanning and output is for the photographers and ad agencies. Now for the ?'s. I like what Binuscan does, most of the time. I have not got the whole system set up just right, something is not right. Everything is not working right, it works just not the way I think it should. I was wondering if Polaroid or you have any recommendations. I am open to any suggestions. Also I find that the size of files I am able to get from 35mm is to small for some of the jobs I do. Does Polaroid have any remanufactured or returned 35mm scanners, that a person could buy at a good price? Thanks for your help.
