[Finale] downloading Finale 2007a question
I downloaded the Finale 2007a updater on my Mac Powerbook G4, and I don't see anything on my hard drive that specifically says 2007a (whenever I previously updated to a newer version of Finale, the new file with the year plus the update letter always appeared in my folder). I don't see anything new file that says Finale 2007a. Did something go wrong with my download, or is the download invisible on my computer? I am very interested in microtonal music. I have not tried this in finale, even as a user who works with Finale almost twenty years. If you are sucessfull in Finale, please tell me. Hi Kurt, I am very interested in microtonal music too. For the moment, I do not have a clue about how to do this in Finale (I am still a newbie), but I will look into it and I will let you know everything I find out. On the other hand, tuning an instrument lower or higher cannot be too difficult (not that I looked into that yet either), perhaps it can be done in studio view. I will know more soon. For the rest, I finally managed to open the Manual (after three months!). I didn't download Adobe 8. I do not know what was wrong with it, or indeed, whether it will still open tomorrow. i know this has been fixed in 2007a, but i am not risking any changes at the moment; i discovered - with TGTools - that once one plugin window is up in part view (by opening in score view in the same or a new document and returning to the part) you can call up other plugins while still in part view. otherwise some plugins are not usable at all in parts, like join two staff systems. anyways, of use to anyone who doesnt grab the updater for whatever reason. -- shirling neueweise ... new music publishers mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] :.../ http://newmusicnotation.com ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

Re: [Finale] Re: linked parts: copy page layout
Jef, I just tried this and it worked! How could I have missed this for so long. Only my reluctance to mess around with unfamiliar things kept me from trying this a couple of days ago, when you first mentioned it, but I am so grateful, you can't imagine, to Tobias for creating this, and to you for finding it and pointing it out to me. I'm sure there are things in Robert's plugins and other parts of TGTools that will be equally time saving and generally useful, when I overcome my fear and explore them. The only thing that did not paste into the selected destination file were the measure widths I had adjusted by hand. There were only two of these, so the time saved was substantial, 2 minutes instead of 10-15 minutes. That's an amazing improvement! This makes the linked parts work for me, in spite of the necessity to reconfigure page numbers and titles - one set for the score and one for the parts. If I can figure out some simpler ways to automate that, that will eliminate what, for me, is the only remaining hitch, and that problem is outweighed by the advantages even now. Thank you again, Jef. This is a big help. Chuck On Dec 21, 2006, at 4:38 PM, shirling neueweise wrote: hey chuck, more grand news. 1. [Finale] Re: linked parts: copy page layout
I just tried this and it worked! How could I have missed this for so long. every once in awhile, poke around the plugin menus... i tend to forget some things as well. page numbers and titles - one set for the score and one for the parts. If I can figure out some simpler ways to automate that, set up the titles like you want them to appear in one part, check the settings (position relative to margins), delete, go to score view, assign the text you want using the setting from the parts. cmd-drag top where you want it on the score. using fixed point size helps this process a lot. if you don't want fixed point size, or want dofferent text in score and parts, define them separately, then: - cmd-ctl click the text in the score and deselect show, it won't appear in teh score. - ctl click, deselect show, then cmd-ctl select show, it won't show in the score. check out pp37-5 linked parts in the manual, as darcy mentioned recently, it takes some effort to get your head around it, and you will surely make some mistakes at first, but it's really quite good to work with once you know how it thinks and adjust your work (-ing habits) accordingly. you might want to change the colours of the unlinked objects and the degree of shading, i find the default settings are too bright, i found it hard to visualize what they might look like if black. mine are a kind of brown, so when finishing up things and doing onscreen proofing (colours off) before printing the elements blend together better. -- shirling neueweise ... new music publishers mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] :.../ http://newmusicnotation.com ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
Re: [Finale] Tuning and Finale A=415?
I'm curious is there a way to change the pitch of A in the playback features for Finale, e.g. to adjust down to 410 ? assuming you are using a tuning of 440Hz, adjust all your tempos to 93% of the original (410/440) -- shirling neueweise ... new music publishers mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] :.../ http://newmusicnotation.com ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

That would work with a waveform recording of some sort, but not with playback from Finale. What he needs is a way to set the pitch of A. If he's using GPO, I assume there's a way to do that. -- David W. [Finale] Tuning
The last time I was messing about in Kontakt 2, I think I saw a control which was defaulted to A 440, so it must be controlable. We could always check Darcy's Tutorial. Re: [Finale] Re: linked parts: copy page layout
John, You can do it with two sets of numbers, one for the score and one for the parts and use the Hide/Show toggle to control them, but it's a pain, and things look cluttered with both sets showing, even when one is grayed out. I haven't bothered with this yet. I will continue to explore these things with Jef's help - and reading the appropriate pages in the manual. Thank you both for your reply. I hear this will be addressed further in Fin2008 but I wondered how you were dealing with it under the current limitation. ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

David's right of course--this would play back your piece at A=440, but at a tempo slowed by 7%. May I ask what you want A=415 *for*, and why you don't just transpose the music to a lower key? Unless that takes some instruments below their range, that's an awfully easy solution. David Lawrence ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
