[Finale] FinWin - any precautions for uninstalling 2005 having 2006 on the same system?

2008-02-14 Thread themark
I decided to uninstall 2005. I have 2006 on the same system. Have I to
take any precautions in order to prevent loss of shared files between
the two applications, apart the obvious check of not having any of my
works saved in 2005 folder??

Thank you.

[Finale] Band-in-a-Box and Mac/Intel/Windows

2008-02-14 Thread Andrew Levin
Greetings,

Recently someone mentioned using Band-in-a-Box within the Windows
environment on an Intel machine, using Garritan sounds as well. I didn't pay
much attention at the time, but now I have BIAB (for Mac).

Is there a reason to go Windows as opposed to straight-up Mac for this? Can
whoever posted this explain your set-up?

I have both a G5 and an Intel Mac.

Thanks.

2008-02-14 Thread Eric Dannewitz
The version of Band in a Box for Macintosh is 5 versions behind the PC
one (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and now 2008). Plus, it is not universal
binary (last I checked).

On your G5 Mac, you don't really have an option other than BinaB Mac version.

On an Intel Mac, you can run BinaB 2008 with Boot Camp, or even under
Parallels. I have this running on my iMac. Works fine. Garritan Jazz
band works fine too (running under Windows of course). No stutters or
anything.

I'd say away from the Mac version of BinaB. The PC version is really
light years ahead of the Mac version.

You might be remembering a thread in which I bemoaned the fact that
the MIBAC Rhythm Section Generator plugin doesn't work now for
several versions on the Mac, whereas it works fine on the Windows
version of Finale. I might have also said something like BIAB is
better anyway than MIBAC.

But anyway, my Mac version of BIAB works fine. I haven't tried it
with Garritan, but I see no reason why it won't work.

[Finale] playback of multi instrument staves

2008-02-14 Thread Chuck Israels

Hi all,

I have never needed to do this before, but I am working on a wind
ensemble score and, for the usual practical reasons, there are some
staves with more than one instrument. Is there a way in Finale to
assign two midi channels to a staff - upper and lower notes?

TIA,

Chuck

Only if they are in separate layers. Click on the drop down arrow to the
left of the staff name in the instrument list. The staff line expands to
show the different layers.
