Re: [Finale] Midi Key Velocities (Auto Dynamic Placement Plug in con't)
Just a guess, but you may be up against the randomizing aspect of HP. It's not supposed to play each note exactly the same in a mechanical method, which would account for the discrepancies in the lengths of the notes as well as in any nuances of dynamics. Why doesn't the plug-in work with HP turned off? I would think it should work the best with HP turned off because then the program performs mechanically. Whatever values you have assigned in the Expressions dialog for each dynamic should be the velocities which are produced for each note. Very curious! Thanks for investigating this stuff. Re: [Finale] Midi Key Velocities (Auto Dynamic Placement Plug in con't)
Thanks for replying David-- the randomizing aspect of HP. It's not supposed to play each note exactly the same in a mechanical method, which would account for the discrepancies in the lengths of the notes The randomizing of the whole note value only happens with HP on, with an exported midi file..otherwise, with HP off its says at 1/000-so this would bear out what you've said. Thing is I really dont want any discrepancies..just what I put in, I want to get out. For the sake of completeness, I include the results with HP OFF, of Fins' exported midi files:..again, the Default On Vel is the original midi velocities, that match the Dynamic values in the Expressions dialog HP ON HP ON Note Default On VelResults using Simple entry Results using the HP OFFHP OFF (the expected result) and assigning default dynamics imported mid file, +plugin, again using default dynamics Simple EntryImported MIdi file - --- - --- -- C310 15 28 1 1 D323 24 37 1 1 E336 39 52 1 21 F3 49 50 63 19 47 G362 6780 58 73 A375 7689 97 99 B388 91 104 127 125 C4 101 102 115 127 127 D4 114 119 127 127 127 E4 127 127 127 127 127 Whatever values you have assigned in the Expressions dialog for each dynamic should be the velocities which are produced for each note. This is what I thought, also--Im probably missing something very simple. but cant for the life of me find out what.and all searches on the forums, wnb etc..turn out really nothing about this plugin. Im still following this up with MM support. Thanks again for replying David. [Finale] layer problem
After using Finale mostly as a scratch pad for years, I now need to create some professional looking scores and am digging into areas I've never worried much about. I'm working on a contrapuntal piano score and am running into a problem that must have a solution I'm missing. In the treble clef, I have two parts, each in its own layer. The two parts are frequently a M or m second apart. Finale always puts the note with the stem down to the left, so that the two stems are on the outside of the note-heads, rather than aligned together on the inside of the two heads. I've been manually moving the heads and stems, but I would rather not have to if there's a better way. In light of many other things Finale automatically does correctly, this behavior seems odd. Pardon me if the answer is right there in the manual and I'm just missing it - Thanks Stu ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

None of the cantatas you're looking for is in the DDT volume. (Am sending table of contents via private). Have you manage to find Friedrich Noack, Christoph Graupner als Kirchenkomponist, BH Wiesbaden /1960 (=Beiheft of the DDT-Series); it's a good overview of the 1400+ (!) cantatas and a good place to start. Re: [Finale] layer problem
It sounds like you might be using Layer 1 as the bottom (lowest) layer and Layer 2 as the top layer. To get correct multi-layer spacing, you need to do the opposite -- Layer 1 on top, Layer 2 on bottom. (Also make sure you select the appropriate stem direction in your Layer options.) [Finale] continued trouble with 2008b
Hi all, I'm still having trouble with Finale corrupting the preference file when quitting. It no longer freezes. It seems to quit without obvious incident, but the next time I try to open it, it quits before the opening is complete. Before I complain yet again to MM about this, is it possible (or likely) that something in my system is causing this? Am I the only one experiencing this profound annoyance? I'm getting too good at rebuilding my preferences! Also, is there a place on my computer that I can keep a copy of the preferences that Finale will not see it and get confused, and what is a good, step by step procedure to follow when Finale will not open? Thanks guys (and gals). Chuck, Just use the Finder to duplicate your prefs file and leave it next to the original. To restore, delete the corrupted file, duplicate the duplicate and remove the copy 2 info and you've got restored prefs. **Leigh On Mon, Mar 3, 2008, Chuck Israels [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Also, is there a place on my computer that I can keep a copy of the preferences that Finale will not see it and get confused, and what is a good, step by step procedure to follow when Finale will not open? ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

Re: [Finale] continued trouble with 2008b
Have you had a sudden power off of your Mac without shutting it down properly? You might have a minor volume bitmap problem. You can boot while holding doing the command and S keys to get to the shell. Then follow what it says to do. Volume bitmap problems cause weird things sometimes. If in doubt, you can just zip it up and leave it to anywhere :-) When you say Finale will not open, I assume Finale is crashing. You can send me the crash log privately if you want. I can give a half-baked- educated guess. Also open /Utilities/Console.app and watch what system log get produced when Finale crashes. You can copy the lines and send it to me.
