One of the great arrangers. He's with Thad now.

I am very sad to report the passing of pianist, composer, arranger
and bandleader Bob Florence. He died this afternoon after a long
illness. He was a brilliant and dedicated musician who never stopped
searching for ways to express emotions through music.

Those who knew him and his music have lost a great friend.

Best wishes,

RE: [Finale] Pizzicato volume problem

2008-05-15 Thread dr.a.s. weinstangel

Thank you for your suggestion. I could not find anything unusual with the
expressions, but am able to manually adjust the velocity for each instance.

As all pizzicati are in Layer 2, would it be possible to globally set the
volume/velocity for that one layer only? TIA.

Yes, what he said, and also look for any expressions you might have

The other possibility is that Leigh has placed an expression which was
created by duplicating an existing expression and then editing the text,
so if the original had playback defined for tempo at 8th=80, the
duplicated and edited expression may also still have playback defined.

Something is in the score which is making finale interpret the desired
tempo as 8th=80, so it's either human playback interpreting the tempo
expression or the program itself interpreting an expression.

RE: [Finale] creating a Nonstandard Linear Key Signature

2008-05-15 Thread Owain Sutton
Nonstandard key sig...

Nonlinear key sig

ToneCnt: 1

KeyMap: change the squares to WWBBWWBWWBWB (The first white being D, the
second Eb, the third white F#, etc.)

AOrdAmt:
Unit 1 (F#) leave alone.
Unit 2 (Bb): step level -1 (DOWN from D(=1) to B), amount -1.
Unit 3 (Eb): step level 2, amount -1.
Units 4-7, amount 0.

However, if you return to view Unit 2 or 3, a bug will enter a large
number in the step level and the accidental will disapper (or,
presumably, be positioned ten feet above the stave).

The Nonstandard Key Signature dialog box is broken, as of (I believe)
Finale 2006. I've encountered the problem you describe when importing
older files with nonstandard key sigs -- which *did* display correctly
in older versions of Finale. I have not found a solution.

Are there any other markings in that passage? If you created an

would also have been duplicated. My advice is to right click and select
'edit expression definition' on each one and click on the playback tab
