[Finale] TAN: building a database for a music library

2008-08-24 Thread Margaret whitby
My apologies, I'm somewhat out of date about FMPro being cross platform
now. What I was really trying to say though was that in relatively
small groups of people---orchestras or any other associations---most
members have Excel on their computers---most often PCs--- but not
FMPro or any other data base for that matter. This might be relevant
in Johannes situation, Margaret

We hear you. Having everyone able to read it might be good in some
situations.

Excel is Mac, too, BTW, so the platform is not of such consequence.

Re: [Finale] exploding bug in 2009

2008-08-24 Thread Christopher Smith

Hi Chuck,

This is indeed the new behaviour, though I doubt it is a bug. It's
just a stupid change that they probably enacted knowingly with the
new expressions, but without checking who needed it first.

I liked being able to put all my dynamics, articulations, slurs and
hairpins in before exploding. In TG Tools Smart Explosion it even
copies the hairpins. Now if I use Finale's explode function, I will
have to copy Smart Hairpins as before, but now I have to add
Expressions.

I want to make sure this bug is real before reporting it.

[Finale] multi-measure rests in 1st and 2nd endings

2008-08-24 Thread Ryan Beard
Hi List,
I can't get a multi-measure rest to appear in a two-bar first ending of a
linked. The measure attributes are set so that a rest should appear, but even
after I select the bars and choose to create a multi-measure rest, Finale still
keeps individual bars of rest.
I've even extracted the part from the score (thinking it had something to do
with the linked part), but that didn't work.
Amy I missing something here? Is this a known bug?

Ryan,

Hmm, weird. This behaves itself on my system (Mac OS 10.4, Finale 2009)

Did you select the measures, go to Edit menuMultimeasure RestsCreate?

If this doesn't work, then make sure the measures are REALLY empty
(no REAL whole rests showing up; they look just like the default
ghost rests, but they prevent multimeasure rests from forming. Delete
the contents just to make sure.)

Then check any expressions that may be in the measures and make sure
that their attributes are not set to Break Multimeasure Rest.

After this, it may be corruption. Copy the contents to a new file and
see if the problem copies along with the contents. If it does, I
would suspect an expression or actual contents that you may have missed.

The only problems I have had involve the right-hand brackets
sometimes disappearing when I create multimeasure rests in first
endings, and sometimes I can't select the left-hand bracket in that
circumstance, either.

Re: [Finale] Expressions in bottom part score impossible in 2009

2008-08-24 Thread Stig Christensen

Hi Allen,

Youre right if the document is fresh, it's working, but not if the
document is originally made in 2008 or earlier.
I think the step from 2008 to 2009 has been a bit time consuming. I
mean importing the expressions, dividing it to categories, and if you
use QuicKeys as I do, there are certainly a lot of minor details to
work out before the system works again.

Anyway thank you for your time!

Stig--

I just tried your steps, and it's working on my MacBook. Does your
bottom staff have either a staff style or a staff attribute set to
not display expressions? (Alternate notation...)

Now, try to insert a rehearsal mark! Is it working?
On my Mac - both of them - it doesn't.

Hi Christopher,

Adjusting repeat brackets over mm rests is often problematic. I find
that if I have made changes to the default positioning of the bracket
ends in the score, I will need to remove the mm rest within the
bracket to make the adjustments in the parts and then recreate the rest.

Actually, you don't need to go that far. They will be editable in
scroll view (which is how I usually work around it, guessing as best
as I can what the correct length will be.)

[Finale] Size of Orchestra Score

2008-08-24 Thread Jane Frasier
I am engraving a composition for full orchestra plus SATB. The customer
has asked for the score on 8.5 x 11 paper. At that size everything is
so tiny I can't imagine it would be readable. What size of page do you
use? In the past I have printed on 10 x 14 and that looked pretty
good, but certainly not a standard paper size.

Also she wants the choral score in octavo size. I have seen lots of
recent choral scores printed on 8.5 x 11. What do you think?

Thanks.

11x14 is standard and easily obtainable by cutting down from 11x17.

[Finale] resend: FinWin 09 printing problem

2008-08-24 Thread Cecil Rigby
Hi all-

My HP 5100dtn (duplexer) **WILL NOT** print on both sides in this version. I
have the latest XP service pack 3 driver for the printer (that was the first
thing I checked). I've tried every option I can think of, but menu items have
moved so much from '06 I might be missing something and not even know it.

What settings will allow me to print double-sided on 8.5x11 (or even 11x17 in
booklets) ?!

If no one's had this problem maybe I just need to contact tech support
many thanks in advance for suggestions, etc.
