Re: [Finale] Clef problem

2008-12-17 Thread Florence + Michael
Fake it. Rewrite the notes in an extra layer in the treble clef so
they look as they would in bass clef. Of course it won't play back
correctly, but it's easy enough to get it looking right on the page

Michael

Long-time lurker here.

I have some piano music which has an octave in the bass which is
tied over
several bars and held with pedal. Easy enough - however, during
these bars
the bass clef is changed to the treble and the left- and right-
hands play
around a bit until the left-hand returns to the bass clef - the
tied octaves

are just repeated every bar underneath.

I can't work out how to change the clef without the held notes
plummeting

down as if they were in the treble clef.

All suggestions gladly received.

Thanks in advance

Does playback matter?

If not, simply transpose those notes which are too low when it
switches to treble clef so that they remain on the same line/space
as when in bass clef. Visually it's easy to do.

To incorporate proper playback, I think you might need to add
another staff (which you will eventually optimize):

(in page view)
1) add new staff, set clef to bass clef, set it not to show clef,
key signature, time signature

2) enter the proper notes for the sustained octave Ds
3) on those measures where there is a problem, drag that staff up
so that it overlays the current left-hand staff exactly. Do this
in a larger view percentage.
4) optimize the score so that the new staff will disappear on all
systems except the one(s) where the octave Ds are required.

Actually, you could put the wrong note that shows in its own layer
which you mute, and add the right note in a hidden layer that plays
back, so you wouldn't need extra staves in this particular case. But
your solution is very creative!

Many more sophisticated folks on this list than me, but just in case, would
it possibly be appropriate to simply have both hands in two parts in the
treble clef for a few bars? Left hand part stems down, right hand up. You
see that sort of thing all the time, but maybe you are implying something
more involved than I can picture.

Yes, FN08 was instaled under Tiger and also after an upgrade to Leopard.

If you care to, Go to /System/Library/Extensions/
and highlight MOTUPCIAudio.kext the version on my PPC is 1.2.2. I'd
be interested to see that yours is the same.
