[Finale] Finale Tips

2009-02-24 Thread James Gilbert
I put together a PDF book a number of years ago with Finale tips. It is not
current, but with a few adjustments for newer versions, it still may be of
use, especially for beginners. If interested, go to my website (below),
choose the music catalog then the free downloads link. The title is "Finale
Tips and Secrets."

Re: [Finale] Linked Parts

2009-02-24 Thread Jonathan Smith
I use a system of 2 different measure numbers sets, one for the score
and the other for the linked parts quite successfully. Here is what I
do:-

Set up 2 Measure Number regions:

Region 1 (for numbers in the score):
measures 1-999
16pt bold (or heavy) font etc,
Then check:
• show every measure
• all views
(nothing else checked)
Postition centred above or below the staff you want them to appear in
the score

Region 2 (for numbers in the linked parts):
measures 1-999
12pt Italic (or lighter) font etc,
Then check:
• show measures at Start of System
• Always show on top staff
• Exclude other staves
• Multi measure rests (and also show measure measure ranges on MM rests)
• Page view only
Position to the left and just above staff

then go to Staff Attributes:
Measure numbers unchecked in all parts apart from the staff where you
want the score measures to appear (usually top, centre or bottom staff)

Set up a staff style to and in the one linked
part where they appear (the part which you checked for the measure
numbers to appear in the score) apply the staff style to the whole
part concerned (metatool this and it is just one key stroke)

The only drawback is that you will also get a small number (as set
for the parts) appearing at the start of each system top left staff
in the score but this very inconspicuous and if anything an extra aid
for anyone referencing the score or conducting.
