[Finale] Score List flakiness
I'm experiencing some real flakiness with new score lists. The option to show up on the top staff often (but not always) does not work after optimizing. And the tempo indications then become missing from the linked part. I consider this to be serious, although it is fixable by redoing the expression. But why should we have to double check things that were entered properly? It undermines confidence in our data. (Finale 2009b, Mac, new document started in FinMac 2009b) The old staff lists were much more reliable in this regard. -Randolph Peters ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
RE: [Finale] Bizarre FinWin 2009b behavior
Ray, I suspect these are MORE of the problems associated with the FINALE and FINMIDI .ini files. The real problem is that on PCs it is not soluble by merely deleting the files in the PROGRAM FILES folder, but one must also delete these files in the USER/AppData/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files/Finale 2009 location as well;-( Henry Howey Professor of Music Sam Houston State University Box 2208 Huntsville, TX 77341 (936) 294-1364 http://www.shsu.edu/music/faculty/howey.php Owner of FINALE Discussion List From: Ray Horton [rayhor...@insightbb.com] Sent: Sunday, May 03, 2009 5:33 PM To: finale Subject: [Finale] Bizarre FinWin 2009b behavior This is bizarre. All of a sudden Finale (Windows) 2009b has started acting strangely. First, many functions do not redraw the screen, making it appear that no action occurs. My first sign of this - I highlight the first bar, hit delete - nothing, so I hit delete again - nothing. Try it a third time - nothing. Then I look at the end of the file to check something, come back, and, you guessed it, I have deleted three bars at the beginning! Also, Undo does not work - Ctrl-Z does nothing, and the undo- redo functions under the Edit menu are grayed out. I rebooted the computer but no change. There may be other strangeness that I have not yet observed. Is my best bet to reinstall? Thanks, Raymond Horton ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
Re: [Finale] Score List flakiness
Have you ever deleted measures after entering the tempo indications? Apparently, that breaks everything and you have to re-enter your tempo expressions (and rehearsal letters!) Report this to MakeMusic and complain loudly. I did, but I don't get much sympathy because they claim it doesn't affect many people. Re: [Finale] Score List flakiness
Wow! Thanks for letting us know how it happens. I'm definitely complaining with ALL CAPS about this one! I can't believe they think that is a suitable excuse. Gr! As a composer, I add and delete measures all the time. If MakeMusic thinks that Finale shouldn't be used in this way, they don't understand their user base. -Randolph Peters On 4-May-09, at 11:31 AM, Christopher Smith wrote: Have you ever deleted measures after entering the tempo indications? [snip] Do let us know what sort of response you get on this -- if they don't think many people are using staff lists, then why did they continue to include the capability? And if they think that people who use staff lists don't delete measures after having assigned staff lists, then they truly don't understand much about music engraving or the way people use Finale anymore. In any event, it seems to be just one more example of they're still buying the product with all this crap happening so we should be all set for a while business strategy which seems to be all too prevalent today.
