Hi Jim,
I haven't delved enough into Finale's MIDI workings to try mapping
things, but the Nanos work great w/ Reason and other softsynths, so
seems it should work w/ anything controllable via MIDI if you have
the patience to program it. Didn't know QuicKeys could be used that
way! I'd be curious if you discover some things.

RE: [Finale] it worked fine until they fixed it

2009-05-17 Thread DANIEL CARNO
Hi Larry,

I have had this problem, off and on, with various versions of Finale,
without understanding the cause. I now routinely use the "insert page
break" command in the page layout tool on all pages, for both score and
parts, before printing. It worked for me, and I hope it does the trick for
you.

My latest gripe with FinMac 2K7 concerns moving measures around.

After extracting a tuba part, I have 2 pages. The final page has 3
measures only, so I would like to move these measures to page 1.
Here is what I tried:

MassMover: select the measures to be moved and hit the UP arrow.
The measures move on the screen, but when I print the part, I have
two pages with the second page showing 3 measures. Apparently, the
measures did not stay where I put them, and don't know why. 2K4c was
better behaved, IMHO.

I am reminded of the way that Nightingale used to behave(and it
is an unpleasant memory.) It seems, once again, that 2K7 requires
extra steps to accomplish what earlier versions of Finale did with
one step.

I plan on returning to 2K4c ASAP, but in the meantime, I must fix
this tuba part before abandoning 2K7.

I am relying on The List to help me get this seemingly simple task handled.

Please advise as to how to move those last 3 measures from Page 1 to
Page 2 and get it printed before Finale hoses me again. :-)

Thanks,

Larry

Go to page 1, hit Update Layout (command-U) before printing. Check
the layout again if it will reassure you.

Then go to Program Options>Edit (it is there in 2009, maybe it moved
from somewhere else in 2007) and make sure Automatic Update Layout is
on. It seems to turn itself off from time to time.

Once the measures are as you like them, hit ctrl-c. Despite
countless "improvements" some things never change about Finale.

Yeah, that seems to work for me too. I also always save one version
of the score as a separate file before I start messing (e.g.,
editing) with linked parts.

It depends a bit on what your workflow is. If you want MM rests
created automatically, you need to go to Document | Manage Parts.
Click on Part Creation Preferences and make sure that Create MM
rests is checked. I think you'll need to save this in your template
to make sure that all new documents inherit it.

If you're working in an existing score, and if you haven't yet
created linked parts, you can visit this dialog before you do so
and make sure that the box is checked.

If you're working in an existing score and you've already created
linked parts, then select the Measure tool and go to Measure |
Multimeasure Rests | Create for Parts/Score. Click Select All, then
deselect the Score, and hit OK.

(I know you're talking about extracted parts, but in Fin07 and
later, extracted parts are nothing more than extracted copies of
the linked parts. So whatever you do to the linked parts will be
present when you extract.)

Hope this helps.

[Finale] 2K7 woes

2009-05-17 Thread Lawrence David Eden

FinaleMac 2K7

I have recently started using this version of Finale and am having
part extraction issues. My parts extract without multi-measure
rests. Previous versions of Finale did not present me with this
problem. When I extracted my parts and displayed them in PageView,
my multi-measure rests were there.

Obviously, this must be a "user stupidity error" because I can't
believe that Finale would not create multi-measure rests
automaticallyso, what am I failing to do before I extract my
parts?

Thanks for any help.
