Re: [Finale] compile postscript listing with image
I have been totally p'd off for a number of years, I think since Finale moved to Mac OSX. I used to get beautiful eps rendition when I exported files into PageMaker, since then it's been barely legible, transparency is lost, and it's been a disaster, JR On 12/29/09 9:38 PM, Christopher Smith christopher.sm...@videotron.ca wrote: Unfortunately, Finale shows onscreen a poor quality preview of the EPS. But it should print at full resolution. When it was first changed from the previous high-quality preview (I think I remember that happening in 2003!) I complained, and was told it was because of the way Apple handled it. I sometimes can't even see what the EPS is onscreen! Christopher On Tue Dec 29, at TuesdayDec 29 5:57 PM, Minke Hylarides wrote: Yes, EPS! I didn't try that, because it doesn't look well in Finale. But you're right, it looks fine in the PDF after Compile PS Listing. How do I get the EPS to look right in the Finale-file itself? But on the other hand, while trying this Compile-method, I come across some other things: like fonts that won't come through right, even though I tell Finale to include them (but when I turn that thingie(?) off, the text blocks look better, strangely enough). And another thing: the EPS-images appear too high on the page... I reckon this is the usual fiddling around to get things working with Finale - or with computers on the whole, but for the time being I think I'll just stick to the print as PDF method. Maybe I sort it all out one day. (Today it just doesn't seem the right moment: too many distractions, up to a roof that started leaking a few minutes ago!) Re: [Finale] clef between grace and real notes
wowowowow! yeah selectively marking notes/rests to not affect spacing was of great help in this score. there seems to be no way to do this on a region without going through the notes one at a time. what else do you / others use the frame dialogue for? the documentation seems almost non-existent on it. or have i just not searched properly in the onilne help? my normal grace note trick (75% tuplets in another layer) isn't ideal here, in this passage i need the grace notes to not affect spacing wthin the beat of the real rhythm. Mark those fake notes (through the frame dialog box in Speedy Entry) to not be part of spacing and it should work just fine. ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

Maybe the revisions to the selection tool have made this obsolete, but in my WinFin2003 (and earlier versions), I select a region, and from the MassEdit menu, choose CHANGE and then ARTICULATION ASSIGNMENTS. One of the options is to reposition the selected articulation. You have to do it one articulation at a time, but you can select the entire document and do all instances of that articulation at once. Andrew, As I recall you're on a Mac. I use both Windows (laptop provided by employer) and Mac. Running Snow Leopard and Adobe Reader 9.2.0, in the center of the print dialog is Page Scaling with a drop down list of choices: None, Fit to Printable Area, Shrink to Printable Area, Multiple pages per sheet, Booklet Printing. Re: [Finale] TAN: Numeric keypad for Mac
I got the cheapest one that Future Shop sold, at $19, a generic USB numeric keypad. But, I have to remember to hit NumLock every time I plug it in (or else the keys don't do what I expect), and it doesn't have the / key (for ties in Speedy) nor the clear key that I miss so much on my laptop. I fear only a genuine Apple one at about $40 will have those features and not require you to hit NumLock each time you plug it in. I would be ecstatic to hear to the contrary, however. Whenever I have some heavy Finale work to do on my laptop away from home, I bring my full Mac keyboard from my desktop machine along with me. It's bulky, but it speeds me up immeasurably.
