[Finale] How do I 'Save' my last screen image when shutting down?

2011-07-26 Thread Malcolm Steele
Hi everyone,

I am running Finale 2010 on Snow Leopard and although I have carefully studied
the 'help' files I cannot re-open Finale commencing with my final screen
setting on shut down.

Am I able to make this a 'preference' ?

I am sure I will be able to do so with the right advice because it is too
logical a requirement, not to be possible.

I will greatly appreciate help on this.

What do you mean final screen setting? You can, in Preferences, tell it a lot
of things but it's not going to remember your final screen settings

That is said to be a new feature in OS 10.7, if I
read it correctly. Which implies that it was not
possible previously.

Re: [Finale] OS X Lion

2011-07-26 Thread Darcy James Argue
Hi Justin,

One thing you might add to the OS X Lion compatibility page is that there is
now a UI issue with the Time Signature dialog box. With the elimination of
clickable scroll arrows, the Number of Beats and Beat Duration slider must
now be dragged. (I find this a bit annoying as dragging the slider by just one
position can be finicky.)

Otherwise (knock on wood) no problems with Fin2011 + Lion so far.

Of course, Fin2011 isn't Lion-native so it doesn't support 10.7's incremental
auto-save or resume features -- you might also want to mention that on your
info page.

 Hi all,

So, anyone try installing the new OS yet? Obviously I'd be interested to hear
about any issues with Finale -- especially considering that only
Intel-compatible versions of Finale will run on Lion.

Re: [Finale] OS X Lion

2011-07-26 Thread Florence + Michael
I find that if I click in the space next to the Number of Beats slider, it
moves by one position, increasing or decreasing the number of beats by one. It
gets a bit tricky to hit the space when decreasing from three to two beats: in
this case, I find it quicker to move the slider left to the one beat position,
then click once to the right of it.

[Finale] Last screen image and now - a font problem in Lion

2011-07-26 Thread Chuck Israels

And this feature works for me. It seems pretty convenient.

However:

I have had a font problem in the switch to Lion, but I think it is not likely
to be applicable to others. When I first started using Bill Duncan fonts, I
installed two fonts called B Times Bold and BI Times BoldItalic (probably just
Bill's versions of Times Bold). I use them in all my Finale Files. Later,
Bill updated the fonts, and the newer ones are called BTimesBold and
BTimesBoldItalic (no spaces). Older documents have some of each version (I
know - sloppy, on my part). In earlier versions of OS X, Finale would find the
older version of the font and (usually) replace it with the newer, correctly
displaying one. In Lion, Finale can no longer find the older font, so I have
to edit each expression or text block and replace the wrong font with the
correct one. (The Finale font list shows the older font as being missing, even
though I have made sure that the old version is in my font library). OK,
that's tedious, but, if I use the Data Check font utility to try to replace
things in the file globally, font hell breaks loose. My sense of this that
Finale cannot find the offending font (the one that Finale's font list shows as
missing) and it therefor scrambles and misplaces all kinds of font
information/locations. This is from a non-programmer's mind - it's just my
impression, and I may be far off base.

In any case, if anyone has a way to understand this and fix it, I could use
some help. Otherwise, every time I open a file in Lion, I will have to update
a bunch of expressions and some text blocks.

Thanks,

Chuck

To be clear -- this Resume feature does not work (yet) in Finale, or any other
application that has not been updated to take advantage of it.

One helpful tip I found to temporarily disable the feature is to use opt-cmd-Q
to quit, in case you want to start fresh next time.

Chuck, regarding your font problem, there is a FinaleScript batch find/replace
font solution, but I'll have to leave it to the FinaleScript experts on the
list walk you through that.

Thanks, Darcy.

There is someone here in Seattle (Robert Puff) who is a good guy and can help
with this. He already sent a script, but I probably need to be walked through
the process once or twice, and I think he will help with that. If that is the
solution, and it can be applied to multiple files at one time, then this is
only a minor annoyance.

Thanks again,

Chuck
