[Finale] Right-left page annoyance

2011-10-21 Thread Jamin Hoffman
Dear all -

This is a little thing, but it's annoying me.

I want the page numbers in my score to begin with a right-hand page, called
page 1.  The first page number in the score is on page 2, on the left-hand side.

I want the parts (which are all two pages long) to begin with a left-hand page,
called page 2.  The first page number in the parts will be page 3, on the
right-hand side.

I can re-set the page offset for the parts to make them work out correctly, but
it also re-sets the page offset in the score.  Also, the on-screen page layout
doesn't reflect the page offset (meaning that when I can view more than one
page at a time, it doesn't push the left/right pages together correctly).

Maybe I'm spoiled because Sibelius does this automatically - but how can I get
Finale to do this? CAN I get Finale to do this?

I use Finale 2011 on Mac OSX 10.6.8.

Thanks!

Have you tried inserting a blank page at the beginning of each part? I
think that should do it. For screen display, Finale always assumes that
the first page is RH, regardless of the number. This makes sense for
printing as well.

Aaron.

[Finale] New plug-in: JW Copy Part Layout

2011-10-21 Thread Jari Williamsson
Hello!

A new plug-in is now available for download at the Finale tips site,
called JW Copy Part Layout.

It's a plug-in for Finale 2012 and later. The plug-in copies a complete
page layout from a source part to the currently displayed part, through
an easy-to-use user interface. The measure layout for each system gets
locked, so the layout will remain the same in source and destination. It
will check that measures are empty before parts with multi-measure rests
are copied.

The window (where the source part is selected) is modeless, so it can be
open while moving between different parts (or documents).

The following are copied from the source part:
* Page settings (size/margin/etc)
* Staff system settings (size/distance between/page breaks/etc)
* Measure with (+additional space before/after measure)
* Multimeasure rests

Download from:
www.finaletips.nu

Best regards,

Jari Williamsson

[Finale] Fin2012 upgrade

2011-10-21 Thread dershem
A friend upgraded me (very nice of him - I guess when you do charts for
people, they occasionally pay you back in unexpected ways!), but when I
went to install, it froze.
Froze solid.
I downloaded the upgrade, and got to the screen where it says
Installing - Please wait while Finale 2012 is being installed (which
is actually bad grammar), and since then, it just sits there and stares
at me.

Re-try from scratch, or...?

Any advice?

Inaccurate for one, as it isn't being installed - just sitting there,
frozen. And 'installing' and 'being installed' disagree on the verb.

I'm going to assume that you are on a pc.since you are virus
scanning email..that must suck..virus scanning.

I'd first make sure you have the right patches and stuff for windows.
Second, make sure your virus program isn't screwing things up.

Yeah, using Windows 7.  :/
I'll have to check my antivirals once I get home from LA on Sunday.
