Re: [Finale] Changing patches in the new Finale 2012 world
So I have been pursuing my issue of non-playback of pizz and arco expressions with MakeMusic and finally came to understand that Human Playback doesn't work with spacebar playback. Once I opened the playback controls, I could hear the timbre changes. I am a bit miffed by this. I guess Human Playback has never been supported with spacebar playback, but if MM is going to push everyone towards it, it feels like an arbitrary takeaway. I have to now figure out how to regress to SmartSynth if I want to be able to hear simple sound changes without having to cope with playback controls on screen. I just want to be able to click on a bar and hear it play without a lot of hoop jumping. Someone explain to me why I am being a baby, because right now I am kind of upset. ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

Hi Robert, I'm not quite understanding what you mean by spacebar playback. You can start and stop playback using the spacebar whenever the Playback Controls window is open, and Human Playback works fine. (If screen clutter is an issue for you, you can drag all but the edge of the window offscreen and playback is still started and stopped with the spacebar). When the window is closed, the spacebar does nothing. I don't even know how you'd initiate playback without the playback window open. Re: [Finale] Changing patches in the new Finale 2012 world
Hi Darcy, I'm guessing that Robert is talking about Spacebar-click playback. If you hold down the spacebar and click a measure, playback will start there, but without Human Playback. There's also Ctrl-spacebar scrubbing playback, which lets you play back a section forwards or backwards as you drag your mouse across it. Unfortunately, there's a longstanding bug in scrubbing playback which often causes Finale to play back the first chord of a piece as you drag over a barline. Re: [Finale] Nice Present (ACTUALLY from Michael Wittenburg)
My apologies to everyone; I go to work and come back and I apparently have emailed the world. If only I could be so productive. Please do not open the link. I have since changed my password, so my account is again secure. A funny last thought is I had people email me whom I hadn't heard from in ages. Amazing how a spam email can help reestablish contact with people you've lost touch with. Back to matters Finale... With the playback controls open, when I hit space playback starts where the playback window thinks it should start, not where I click. Re: [Finale] Changing patches in the new Finale 2012 world
Hi Aaron, I never knew this feature existed! I agree it would be sensible to at least allow the option for spacebar-click playback to use Human Playback. Meanwhile, Robert, you can use the Apply Human Playback plugin to write the HP data into the file, so that playback with HP off sounds the same as playback with HP on (including pizz./arco changes etc). Of course, if you make any significant changes, you'll need to use the plugin again to clear, and then re-apply HP data, but the plugin might be a reasonable solution for your situation. Or if the only thing you want is pizz. vs. arco, without any other Human Playback interpretation, it should also be possible for you to customize Fin2012's Change Instrument feature to get what you want. Re: [Finale] Changing patches in the new Finale 2012 world
I have always used the Playback Region: From: Leftmost Measure setting. I never knew there was another option! But with a Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad, horizontal scrolling is so easy that I think I'd still prefer that method to spacebar-clicking a particular measure. The ability to instantly and temporarily solo a staff without having to visit the Score Manager is great, though. As I said, I see no reason why this type of playback couldn't be able to incorporate HP. (Obviously, scrubbing can't and shouldn't support HP.)
