Re: [Finale] Staff Styles: 07. One-Bar Repeat
I know this one. Often when you enter Staff Styles into the score, they fail to show up in the parts. It is particularly bad if you have ever copied a Staff Style to another passage or to another staff. They claim to have fixed this, but no, it's still broken. Here is the workaround: In the score, Select All with the Staff Tool. Go to the Staff menu and select Use Selected Staff Styles for Score and Parts. Now re-create multimeasure rests for all parts (it's one operation, you don't have to do it individually!) If you ever use Staff Styles even once in a piece, the chances are good that you will have to perform this operation. I suggest doing it just before you start to format the parts. Christopher On 3/19/14, Stephen Cronin step...@cronin.name wrote: Hello List, Seeking the collective wisdom... FinMac 2012 After entering the notes into a single measure that repeats multiple times, I used a Staff Style to insert single measure repeat signs in the following measures (i.e., looks like a filled in percent sign). When I look at individual parts, the repeat signs have been replaced by multi-measure rests. Is this usual? Is the only solution to insert each repeat or is there something I have missed that will cause Finale to deal with the repeats correctly? Thanks for your help. Thanks, Chuck and Christopher, for the advice. Unfortunately it's an orchestral ballet score with lots of these measures spread (semi-randomly) across many parts. (Playback is not needed apart from quick proof reading.) It will mean each instance must be dealt with individually. [Finale] position certain articulations below staff?
Seeking a way to place certain articulations below the staff in a straight (horizontal) line. Within the Articulation Designer I've tried: Positioning: Checked: Avoid staff lines Checked: Always place outside staff Position: Below Note (using Always on Stem Side seems to do the same thing as Below Note) This puts them at least in a straight line, but they are drawn right through the bottom line of the staff instead of placed below the staff. I've tried fiddling with the Default Vertical Position setting, but the numbers I type into that box don't seem to change the position. -- Finale 2008 Win7 ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu https://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale To unsubscribe from finale send a message to: finale-unsubscr...@shsu.edu
Re: [Finale] position certain articulations below staff?
OK, I think I figured it out. The Default Vertical Position settings were not working because they were not being applied to articulations already entered into the score. Re: [Finale] keyboard shortcuts not working in 2014
I think a number of things are not working correctly in 2014, and I am pretty disappointed. Horizontal scrolling is either delayed, or it jumps too far making navigation annoyingly difficult. Sometimes using the keyboard to jump left or right in the Speedy window stops working and you need to select the spot with the mouse. These things show up after Finale 2014 has been open a while - not necessarily right away, and I don't know if some of this is because I have not upgraded to Mavericks, or if it's something else in my system. And there are a couple of things that used to be in earlier versions (easily visible tool palettes and ivory colored background for the music) that I miss. I understand the reduction in size of the tool palettes for laptop users, but that should be an option, not an unchangeable default. So, I am sticking with 2012 for most of my work, as are my professional copyist friends. I think this is an insufficiently developed version, even after all the time that was taken to release it. I am awaiting an update that fixes these things. Chuck On Mar 20, 2014, at 4:48 PM, Ryan ry.squa...@gmail.com wrote: Mac OS. Keyboard shortcuts don't seem to be working reliably in 2014. I'm on Mavericks and am not having any (more) problems than usual with the Bill Duncan fonts — they have always been slightly wonky. As always, you need to install the PostScript versions — the TrueType versions are a disaster under OS X — and use FontBook to make sure there are no duplicates installed. It's also very important to make sure the fonts are included in Finale's MacSymbolFonts file.
