[Finale] Templates
I have a small but time consuming problem with items disappearing. Tech support have told me it is because I’m using a template made in a Finale version before 2014 and that I should create new Templates in 2014. Almost every setting is tweaked as well as a lot of carefully placed items, so this seems an overwhelming job for every template that I use. Is there any way of printing the settings or is there a file hidden somewhere that I can raid for text of the templates’ settings? when i had to do this, i simply took screenshots of every possible page in the document options, opened my finale doc in the main screen and the images on my smaller screen and hacked through transferring the settings one by one. yuck. thought i was being clever by naming all the screenshots (ties_short, ties_medium, etc.) - i was to a degree, but should have prefixed numbers to them (1a_xxx, 1b_xxx, ...) so they would be listed alphabetically corresponding to the order in which they appear in the dialogue tabs -- NEW RELEASE!!! neueweise -- fonts for new music and traditional notation http://newmusicnotation.com/fonts shirling neueweise | http://newmusicnotation.com new music notation + translation + arts management [FB] http://facebook.com/neueweise | [TW] http://twitter.com/neueweise ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu https://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale To unsubscribe from finale send a message to: finale-unsubscr...@shsu.edu

document options i would think gets it all. if upgrading then also programme options. libraries: - stem connections - articulations - text expressions - ... depending on how much of an overhaul you are doing. i did this between 2012 and 2014, started with a new doc no libraries. was a big pain in the ass, but also an opportunity to clean up my working environment at the same time. i was fortunate in being able to do it in a little bit of downtime and not in the middle of a new project with time constraints. I was dreading that that might be the solution.. I was hoping that Finale might store them in a text file somewhere Are there any gotchas? Don't document options save to libraries? the two times i needed to do this: 1) i started from scratch so did it from the ground up; 2) i needed only some of the settings, and kept some in the doc i was importing to so had no choice but to do it one by one (certain libraries can be imported individually but certain areas are only possible to export as a library in a bundle). Re: [Finale] Templates
Recreating a template for a new version is a tortuous and torturous task. Robert Patterson's Scrapbook Setting plugin just doesn't seem to work for me, and I'm not sure it's comprehensive enough to completely recreate a template with all one's refinements. If someone came up with a plug-in that did this reliably, I'd pay good money for it. I've requested this from the Finale developers, but they didn't bite. Two things. Firstly, the name of the score in score manager doesn't survive closing the file. Secondly, text boxes with inserts disappear when the file is closed and re-opened. I couldn't get further with tech support. These things didn't happen with new files created from the wizard and they did happen with template-created files from 2008 and 2012. I would have thought that Finale would be interested in what was going on, but it seemed not. I'm not sure what could be up with the templates other than settings. They can't all have corrupted in the same way overnight. The work to start them all again is depressing.. There are some jobs that will just not be worth the work. Steve P. Son of a… That's a major, data-erasing bug, and MakeMusic should know of it ASAP. I hope you have opened a tech support case detailing what you told us. Thanks for tracking this down, and sorry it cost you data. Christopher On Wed Feb 18, at WednesdayFeb 18 2:27 AM, John Roberts wrote: I had started the thread on AutoSave and I just got a new one. I tracked this down to an illegal filename character (slash), from an old system of naming files I was still using. Finale will open, work with, and save files with a slash in the name, but not autosave. I should have said before, I'm on an iMac, OSX Yosemite, Finale 2014d. The autosave file is deleted when the parent file is closed (as Chuck says, this seems to be new in 2014). I tried to simulate a crash by force-quitting Finale. When I reopened Finale the active file opened when I started the program, with changes that I had not manually saved but were in the asv file. This would seem to be how it's designed to work. I got the same result forcing a crash by manually shutting off the computer - the file opened as it had been autosaved. If I had crashed after doing a number of changes I didn't want to keep I would go find the .bak backup file. This seems to be a good reason to check the Make Backups When Saving Files prefs option. So autosave is now a fully automatic function. If a file has been autosaved, that's what opens after a crash; you can't open an asv file as such. If you close your original, the asv goes too. If you inadvertently close it, too bad. And so to bed... Re: [Finale] Crashes and AutoSave
How I try to put belt and braces on my self-supporting trousers. Autosave was on by default when I installed F2014 on Windows 8.1 (just before Christmas 2014 on a new Lenovo laptop) and has never given me any trouble on several different versions of FInale since the mid 90s; it saved me some minutes of work two days ago when a security program did a forced reboot of Windows without asking. I try to save with Control S frequently. My back-up folder is on one of two flash drives that I alternate, so that if Finale wrecks all three working files, I have a copy from the previous session. When I am not using the computer, both flash drives are on strings around my neck, so that my portfolio is saved if the house burns down with the laptop in it. Where computers are concerned, my hopes are higher than my expectations.
