Re: [Finale] What is the Finale strategy?

2018-04-24 Thread Mark Adler
Hi All,

I‘ve enjoyed reading the comments in this thread the past few days and
thought I’d jump in with a few comments of my own.

MakeMusic remains a company made up of musicians and run by musicians. I’ve
personally spent a lifetime working as a professional musician, engraver,
and music editor. You’ll find dedicated musicians throughout the company,
from our General Manager, Fred Flowerday, to our engineering, CS, sales,
and marketing teams.

We will indeed miss Michael Johnson, and we wish him the best in his future
endeavors. Michael remains a good friend and continues at be a member of
our company brass quintet, so his opinions and expertise will not be too
far away. While Michael does have a great sense of corporate history and
knowledge, there are also many others here with 20+ years at MakeMusic.
Myself, I am a relative newcomer at MakeMusic with only 10 years.

I monitor this and other forums, so please keep the comments coming,
especially concerning what you like about Dorico, and Finale’s shortcomings
related to linked/voiced parts.

We watch our competitor’s progress closely, and your opinions as to what
features and innovations resonate are very helpful to us as we continue to
develop and improve Finale.

Re: [Finale] Apparent printing bug in new Finale

2016-08-22 Thread Mark Adler
Hi Chuck,

Thanks for reaching out with your requests. I and others at MakeMusic
subscribe to this list and have been following the thread. I subscribe in
digest form and read every update.

I'm sorry you are disappointed with the new Finale. We are aware of the
printing issues are are working to fix them.

We are also aware of the the desire for more customizable pallets, both in
size and color and, while not on the roadmap for the immediate future
(v25.1 or v25.2), we are certainly discussing ways that this can be
achieved.

Part of my job is to prioritize bug fixes and features given available
resources. While I'd love to fix every bug and issue submitted, for this
release, other issues took precedence over developing smarter tuplet
bracket hooks.

Best,

Mark Adler

Re: [Finale] JW Plug-ins Not Working in 2014.5

2015-11-19 Thread Mark Adler
Just a reminder that as we modernize the Finale codebase to remain current
in today's operating systems, plug-ins also need to be modernized. While we
modernized all plug-ins that ship with Finale, it is important to remember
that not all 3rd party plug-ins have yet been modernized and may not work
in Finale 2014.5. My best advice is to check with the various plug-in
developers to make sure that you have the most current versions of their
plug-ins.

Re: [Finale] Finale 2014.5 by end of November?

2015-11-13 Thread Mark Adler
Hi Craig,

2014.5 is on it's way soon and works well in El Capitan but I'm still not
going to publicly state a release date : )
My priority this last year has been to continue to update the codebase,
improve performance and bug fixes. All plug-ins have been updated and many
longstanding plug-in bugs have been addressed. FinaleScript got extra
attention and now works better than ever.

[Finale] Is it time to upgrade

Subject: [Finale] Is it time to upgrade?
I am about to get a new machine (i5 5200U, 8GB RAM) and would like to
upgrade Finale. Currently I am running 2009; is 2014 worthwhile? I have
seen it get a lot of stick but have seen no news of the next release.
Regards,
Michael Lawlor

Hi Michael,

The next new version will be 2014.5, a free upgrade for anyone that owns
2014. Currently we are in the midst of beta testing 2014.5
Here is some information from my blog post on the topic:

http://www.finalemusic.com/blog/mark-adler-and-whats-next-finale-2014-5/

If you find that 2009 has issues in Windows 10 (I haven't tested back that
far, but I suspect it'll work) you can always grab the free trial version
of 2014d and give it a spin.

Hi Henry,

I certainly understand your frustration, and would love it if Finale were
now 64-bit. Just want to let you know that we are working on getting their;
it's a very high priority.
