Re: [Finale] Crashing Finale MAC OSX 10.5.5
I just received another notice in the mail advertising a special rate to upgrade to Finale 2009, good until December. I guess sales for this upgrade have not been so great. I won't be upgrading anytime soon, as I just started using Finale 2008 about a month ago. Martin I have that same issue in Finale 2008 for Mac. I wrote to MakeMusic support about it and the answer was that issue has been fixed in Finale 2009. So I told them they should give me version 2009 free of charge, since I paid about US$125 for v.2008 and it is deffective. My request was denied, of course. It didn't surprise me. I'm a Finale user since 1990 (v.2.5), but I am seriously considering changing to Sibelius. I did buy the $99 crossgrade. If it works for me I'll do the switch, never to spend my money on buggy Finale again. Harold ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

As someone who is still using Finale for Mac 2003a, will I still be able to use Speedy Note entry if I switch over to 2008? Martin On 7/14/08, Bernard Savoie [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: The transition to 2008 almost fouled me up. I had not upgraded when I was asked to give a Finale course/clinic, and when I finally did open 2008 I was dumbfounded by the amount of changes that were introduced. I couldn't find anything in their usual places. Well, preparing for the course was a godsend since it forced me to put my usual workflow aside and really dig into the new version. I got the fact that a lot of the reorganizing of the menu items was bringing often used items on a higher level in the menu, which makes a lot of sense. For instance, in prior versions, you had to go to the measure tool to be able to add or edit anything about the measure. In 2008, we now have direct access under the EDIT menu. (of course, both versions gave you contextual menus although you still needed to have the measure tool selected in pre-2008 versions, while you have access to the pertinent commands in the 2008 version while in the measure tool or the selection tool [which where you will usually end up on anyways]). Since preparing the course, I find myself being a convert. I used to use speedy note exclusively for note entry. Now I can't see myself going back to it with the new simple note. I am getting more and more adept in its use and I am almost to the speed that I had using speedy, but with the added advantage of entering expression and articulation marks as I go along. There are still a few things they need to work out but, having also worked with Sibelius, I see where MakeMusic is heading, as some of the new features announced in the 2009 are definitely influenced by the competitor. Being a 20 year veteran of the program, I understand that it does take a little getting used to if you are used to a certain way of working, but the effort to learn how to work with the new setup will pay off in the long run. Re: [Finale] Staff spacing in FinMac 2003a
Okay, I downloaded this and placed it in the plug-in folder, so now TG tools shows up as a pull down menu when I open up the file I'm working on. I see the Staff List Manager, click on it, and nothing happens. So how do I get this to work for me so that within a range of measures in a section of my score that I already have optimized, I can decrease the amount of space I have between staves? My apologies, I'm probably overlooking something that I'm not doing, but I'm stuck. Any help in how to get this to work for me will be greatly appreciated. But you can still download v2.29c from tgtools.com, and that version is compatible with FinMac 03. I know this used to be possible in a much earlier version of Finale (although I don't recall how I was able to do it back then). The easiest way is to use TGTools staff manager plug-in. Re: [Finale] Midi set up
I currently use a MidiSport 2x2 connected to my Mac Powerbook G4 (OS 10.3.9 and Classic). If I upgrade to a brand new Mac (with Leopard) and update the printer driver on the new Mac, will I be able to go back and forth with the MidiSport 2x2 between my old G4 and the new one without any trouble? [Finale] Fin/Mac 2003a time signature question
I am working on a multi-movement work for chorus and orchestra. In the documents section, I set it NOT to display courtesy time signatures between movements (I'm doing this multi-movement piece as one long file). I have a movement that, in the middle of the movement, changes time signatures (there is going to be a page turn here). Can I, for one measure, somehow force a courtesy time signature?
