2019-07-27 Thread Martin Nickless
Hi there everybody I have just downloaded eventually the JW change plug-in I
noticed there isn’t any help button and I was wondering if anybody uses This
particular plug-in with chords\changes and also hairpins perhaps if somebody
was happy to explain how to use the plug-ins that would be great for example
Do I enter the hairpins or the changes in the normal way then use the plug-in a
bit confused thanks for any help Martin

Re: [Finale] JW Plug-ins Not Working in 2014.5

2015-11-19 Thread Mark Adler
Just a reminder that as we modernize the Finale codebase to remain current
in today's operating systems, plug-ins also need to be modernized. While we
modernized all plug-ins that ship with Finale, it is important to remember
that not all 3rd party plug-ins have yet been modernized and may not work
in Finale 2014.5. My best advice is to check with the various plug-in
developers to make sure that you have the most current versions of their
plug-ins.

[Finale] JW Plug-ins Not Working in 2014.5

2015-11-18 Thread Dean Rosenthal
Hi,

Anyone else having issues with JW Plug-ins in 2014.5? Note Spacing and
others don't seem to be working normally. For example, on Note Spacing, the
first use works, after that, there is no pop-up window, nothing.

I checked Expand Region and others, something doesn't seem right, either. I
like that set of Plug-ins quite a bit. I do hope there's something to be
done. Obviously the release is about Finale and not whether JW Plug-ins are
compatible, but it would be unusual to ignore the possibility.

I'm working on Mac, 10.9.5. I copied the JW Plug-ins from the 2014 folder
to the 2014.5 folder, so that's how I installed them...all help appreciated.

Hello!

I found a bug today that could cause crashes in some Finale files for
some of the JW plug-ins.

These plug-ins has now been updated to version 1.02:

* JW Rhythm Copy
* JW Pattern Copy[/list]

If you're using any of these plug-ins, please update to the latest version.

It seems he's not. This is taken from the page he linked to in his
announcement:

These source code files are released as open source and can be
compiled to a Finale(TM) plug-in, with the following
remarks/limitations:
* This source code is copyright (c) Jari Williamsson, 1999-2004.
* You may NOT sell any part of this source code.
* If you compile this source to a binary, you may NOT sell that
binary.
* You may use individual routines from this source in your own
projects, as long as your project substantialy differs from the
intentions of this source code.
* You may NOT use the whole plug-in as a part of your own projects.
* You may modify/enhance the code to introduce new features. If
you do so, you should publicaly release the source.

The way I read these restrictions, it wouldn't preclude the
possibility of paying someone to do the conversion, so long as the
resulting binary is not sold.

That is, someone might announce, I'm willing to use my Mac OS X
compiler to convert Jari's open source code to create a version of JW
plug-ins that will work on Mac. It would be about two hours of work
which I'd charge at $20/hr, so if someone pays me $40 I'll do the
work. [*] Then if a group of users interested in having the Mac
version available pool their money to come up with that $40, the guy
would do the conversion and release the Mac version which would then
be free to everyone just like Jari stipulates.

By my reading, that would be consistent with the letter of the law and
Jari's restrictions. I believe it's also consistent with the spirit,
but if not, Jari can let us know.

mdl (IANAL))
[*] I'm totally making up these figures for time and money. I have no
idea how easy or difficult it is to do port the code to Mac.

bettery yet: have the code lodged in a repository (like SourceForge)
where it can be worked on and the eager Mac users could simply hire
someone to contribute to the development of the code. This helps keep
the code open, encourages whoever contributes to have their code
viewable for comment/suggestions (and the people paying the bill will
have the benefit of others seeing what they are paying for), and
inspires others to come on board and develop.

I think the model of private moneys financing parts of open source
projects is going to become more and more in vogue and perhaps smaller
contributors (rather than large corporations) can help promote development.

Bravo, Jari, for doing this. (I'm not a Mac user, but applaud people who
have the wisdom to weave open source into their development plan.)

While I realize Jari is releasing the source code of his own free will,
I would think that if anybody is getting paid Jari should get an equal
amount of money. I realize that legally that may not be a requisite if
someone were hired at a per-hour rate to convert the code into Mac
plug-ins, but I would think morally that if anybody makes money from
them, Jari should get an equal amount.

otherwise, pay that extra person to write his/her own source code!

I should add that a number of us would gladly *pay* for Mac versions of

It seems he's not. This is taken from the page he linked to in his announcement:

These source code files are released as open source and can be
compiled to a Finale(TM) plug-in, with the following
remarks/limitations:

* This source code is copyright (c) Jari Williamsson, 1999-2004.
* You may NOT sell any part of this source code.
* If you compile this source to a binary, you may NOT sell that binary.
* You may use individual routines from this source in your own
projects, as long as your project substantialy differs from the
intentions of this source code.
* You may NOT use the whole plug-in as a part of your own projects.
* You may modify/enhance the code to introduce new features. If
you do so, you should publicaly release the source.

The way I read these restrictions, it wouldn't preclude the possibility
of paying someone to do the conversion, so long as the resulting binary
is not sold.

That is, someone might announce, I'm willing to use my Mac OS X
compiler to convert Jari's open source code to create a version of JW
plug-ins that will work on Mac. It would be about two hours of work
which I'd charge at $20/hr, so if someone pays me $40 I'll do the
work. [*] Then if a group of users interested in having the Mac
version available pool their money to come up with that $40, the guy
would do the conversion and release the Mac version which would then be
free to everyone just like Jari stipulates.

By my reading, that would be consistent with the letter of the law and
Jari's restrictions. I believe it's also consistent with the spirit,
but if not, Jari can let us know.

What are your plans for your Forza plugins?

A new beta build (without time limit) of Forza! has been posted to the

The current known problems with Forza! in Finale 2004 has been
listed in a separate mail on the forza-talk list. I'm looking into these
issues.
