I've used the Notion app and the Symphony Pro app and the MusicXML export works just fine from them to Finale or Sibelius. I haven't used NotateMe enough to get to the exporting point but I see no reason it wouldn't work as well. Those are all on the iPad. As notation apps, like Jari points out they are nowhere nearly as mature as Finale or Sibelius, so I've only used them as scratch-pad notation apps and done all the real creation and editing on my computer using Sibelius or Finale. -- David H. Re: [Finale] Writing on tablet using XML to move it to Finale
Thank you all for the responses. I am looking to use the app as a scratch-pad and then do more work to be completed in Finale 2014. At this point I am trying to decide whether to get an iPad or one of the other tablets, and I want to make sure I can do music sketches etc. on it and later move them to Finale. It sounds like I can. Since I am on a PC that I want to synchronize with the tablet, one of my concerns is about being able to move files back and forth easily. I understand that with the iPad I can't actually view what is on it (like you would with Finder on your Mac), and can only move files in out by iCloud (not available to me) or using what you can in iTunes or DropBox or what is in an app itself. This bugs me a bit. Whereas with a Kindle Fire or a Samsung tablet I think I would be able to view the files on my PC, when attached by USB, and move them in out. I realize this is not a Finale question, but if anyone cares to comment, it would be appreciated. Re: [Finale] Writing on tablet using XML to move it to Finale
It's ios way to work. Everything has to be syncronized by iTunes. You can bypass this limit mailing or dropboxing your files. Some apps have wifi sync possibility with browser, but actually my notation app on iPad (symphony pro) does not. -- Gippo Mercoli www.clubgippo.com Il giorno 30/gen/2014, alle ore 19:21, James Cooper j...@modez.com ha scritto: Thank you all for the responses. NotateMe on iPad with a stylus works ok, after the learning period, if all you're going to notate is very traditional music. Notion has no hand writing support and is in the same category of apps as Symphony Pro. You enter the music traditionally in both these apps. The problem with both Notion and Symphony Pro are that they try to be mature notation programs, but the notation editing capabilities are really bad. For a way to just enter music for MusicXML output for further processing, any of these apps should work, although I haven't tested MusicXML export from Notion myself. Re: [Finale] Writing on tablet using XML to move it to Finale
Hi James, I use 'Notate Anytime' on my Samsung Note 3. I import a blank manuscript page (created elsewhere and stored on my phone's micro SD as a pdf). Within the app you can then zoom to any level and write by hand using the Note 3 stylus (on a variety of pen colours/ thicknesses/ erase and even import/ resize other elements etc) onto the blank manuscript. The Note 3 has a big enough screen to comfortably work in any location/ scenario ironically, a nice return to the old days of paper and pen! I've not yet attempted to scan the result to see how feasible it is in importing to Fin 2014, but thought I'd share this idea anyway.
