Re: [Finale] keyboard shortcuts not working in 2014

2014-03-25 Thread Ryan
It's still doing it, even if I haven't switched from another program in a
while. Keyboard shortcuts don't seem to work right after creating the text
block, regardless if I've recently switched back from another program.
After I use the menu with the mouse to make the insert or change the
alignment, then the keyboard shortcuts work.

Re: [Finale] keyboard shortcuts not working in 2014

2014-03-25 Thread Klaus Smedegaard Bjerre
In a work session a few days ago, but after this thread started, I suddenly
experienced this very problem for the first time, which made me think about
what was different in this specific situation.

Atypically I had started working in a graphic application which allows being
set to a very high usage of memory. I hadn't quit that application.

Restarting and opening FM2014 first solved the problem. For the sake of testing
this gain after reading your posting right after doing some photo editing I
closed the graphical application and Word, so that only my browser was open.
Then I started FM2014 and tested the keyboard shortcut for the flat in the Text
tool. It worked.

My reading of this is that FM2014 prioritizes which parts of the application it
reads into memory, when the access to RAM is limited. Shortcuts apparently have
low priority.

Re: [Finale] keyboard shortcuts not working in 2014

2014-03-21 Thread John Roberts
Well, I had programmed most of my keyboard combination shortcuts
directly in MacOS, and thought that it was a real advantage of the OS to
be able to do that.

Initially, I was crashing whenever I tried to edit an expression - Tech
Support had me do a total reinstall, and when that failed they
attributed it to a conflict with custom keyboard shortcuts set up on OS X.

I did spend a few minutes trying to reinstall QuicKeys, but it didn't
seem to be working in Fin2012, and I'm afraid I'm not prepared to spend
the time trying to go through the hoops the forum suggests for using it
with Mavericks, even if I could understand them.

I would really like to see compatibility with OSX keyboard shortcuts
resolved in an (upcoming?) 2014b upgrade - that was simple enough that I
could use it.

Re: [Finale] keyboard shortcuts not working in 2014

2014-03-21 Thread Fiskum, Steve
Confused. Hoops? There are just two things you need to do to have QuicKeys
working on Mavericks. One of them, you had to do in every version of
QuicKeys. Maybe this will helpŠ

1. Go into System Preferences and click on the Security Privacy pane.
Switch to the Privacy tab and pick Accessibility in the left column. Check
both QuicKeys and QuicKeysUserEventHelper. Quit and restart QuicKeys. (Had
to do this with every install of QuicKeys)

2. In the Finder go into the Applications folder and click on QuicKeys
once (do not double click and open it) and do a Get Info (command-I) and
check Prevent App Nap. Quit and restart QuicKeys.

That's it! Less hoops than Finale requires to get a user's new version of
Finale setup to their liking. As long as you don't use the Toolbars in
QuicKeys you should be good.

Good luck.

Re: [Finale] keyboard shortcuts not working in 2014

2014-03-20 Thread Chuck Israels
I think a number of things are not working correctly in 2014, and I am pretty
disappointed. Horizontal scrolling is either delayed, or it jumps too far
making navigation annoyingly difficult. Sometimes using the keyboard to jump
left or right in the Speedy window stops working and you need to select the
spot with the mouse. These things show up after Finale 2014 has been open a
while - not necessarily right away, and I don't know if some of this is because
I have not upgraded to Mavericks, or if it's something else in my system.

And there are a couple of things that used to be in earlier versions (easily
visible tool palettes and ivory colored background for the music) that I miss.
I understand the reduction in size of the tool palettes for laptop users, but
that should be an option, not an unchangeable default.

So, I am sticking with 2012 for most of my work, as are my professional copyist
friends.

I think this is an insufficiently developed version, even after all the time
that was taken to release it. I am awaiting an update that fixes these things.

It's a focus issue. After switching back to Finale from another application,
you need to manually click on the menubar once before any of the keyboard
shortcuts work. Text insert shortcuts also often require an additional click on
the menubar before they begin working again.

 Mac OS.

Keyboard shortcuts don't seem to be working reliably in 2014. When I'm in
the staff group name window, I get the doink alert sound when I type a
keyboard shortcut for text inserts. Using the mouse and menus works, but
 it's very inconvenient.
Same thing happens when I want to resize using Command-Shift-.(period).

 Anyone else experiencing this?

Re: [Finale] keyboard shortcuts not working in 2014

2014-03-20 Thread John Roberts
I was having problems with frequent crashes (Finale 2014a - Mavericks
10.9.2 on an iMac). Tech support suggested I disable custom keyboard
shortcuts, which I was using to replace QuicKeys shortcuts after
QuicKeys stopped working with OSX Lion. Crashes became much less
frequent, but still happen. I'm currently hoping Finale 2014b will fix
that. [wry smile - is there a smiley for that?].

2014-03-20 Thread Chuck Israels
John,

I know QuicKeys is no longer supported, but my shortcuts are still working in
OS 10.8. I know others who have had similar results.
