The biggest omissions from your list that I see are Pedal on and off
indications for piano

i have usually used articulations for this but Ped. is already in the
list (sorry, i didn't type it!!)... since we're on the subject, are
there any playback functions you assign to them at all? what is your
default positioning, the same or lower as the dynamics?

and since I primarily work in choral music, indications like "choir
1", "solo", and "tutti".

solo and tutti are in the "techniques" list already.

i agree with you on the use of specific libraries, i do the same, but
this template isn't for me. my basic settings include a more
extensive list of expressions, but here i'm building what should be
able to function as a strong default file for a new user or any user
who hasn't gotten to the stage of building their own specialized
templates / document styles etc., i.e. for all but the "power user".

thanks for your input!

The biggest omissions from your list that I see are Pedal on and off
indications for piano, and since I primarily work in choral music,
indications like "choir 1", "solo", and "tutti". If there are spelling
errors they are so subtle that they don't jump out at me.

I would note, though, that I no longer use a default file; most of the
time I use specific templates, and when I don't I generally set up the
document from scratch. After loading a specific template file, I have my
expressions in supplemental libraries which I load as needed. Thus, if
I'm doing a piece for choir and orchestra, I load the "basic" library
(which contains about a dozen or so expressions), the "choral" library
(containing expressions of use to choirs and voices, which are
meaningless in instruments--what does "with closed lips" mean to a
piano, anyway) and the "strings", "winds", and "percussion" libraries.
Alternatively, if I'm doing the same work arranged for choir and organ,
I still add the "choral" library, but load the "organ" in place of the
other instruments.

I handle articulations the same way. A work for trumpet and piano has no
bow mark articulations in the document, as those are in the "string
articulations" library, and would not be loaded into a work for piano
and trumpet. On the other hand, those articulations of general use
(fermata, staccato, tenuto, breath marks, &c) are included in the basic
articulations library, and are one of the first things I load when I
start from scratch.

it doesn't have to be absolutely exhaustive, but
should be rather complete for an average user.
