Have you tried using the MIDI tool, alter note durations, alter feel

know what it will do with rests.

I tried this now, but I don't see how it will help me. I need to change
complex rhythms from 12/8 into 4/4, using triplet notation.

It would probably mean having 1 measure completed in triplet for every type of
measure appearing --

Is there an easy way to change 12/8 into 4/4, so that all eighths are
changed into triplets, and so on?

Re: [Finale] Change 12/8 into 4/4?

2008-09-14 Thread Robert Patterson
I assume you want to do more than just change the signature to show as
4/4. I fear even that would respace the music, although I have not
tried it. Even then you would have to manually change the dotted rests
to plain rests.

If you want to use actual triplets, there is no single-step way. You
will definitely lose any manual music spacing you have done. But there
are some tools that can speed it up. For example, use my Mass Copy
plugin to copy the first triplet you enter (possibly invisible) to most
every other beat in the piece or the selection. (You still will have a
problem with the dotted rests, though, and it won't work correctly for
dotted half notes or rests.)

I've done this kind of thing. With the Mass Copy plugin, it basically
amounts to a couple of steps plus having to re-proof. It's not as quick
as one would like, but it isn't just awful either.
