Quick justin-case info for Giovanni: All the blank boxes look alike. A
space is slot #32.

I don't know about your Peignot font problem, but a space (instead of box n.
9) should be a good solution for the invisible note head problem.  That way
when it translates eps it's a character that still doesn't show.
