Re: [Finale] Fin2012 upgrade
A full install is more than two and a half gigabytes (it's the Garritan sounds that take up most of the space). The installer needs to download those gigabytes from MakeMusic to your computer, taking more or less time depending on your connection speed and how busy the MakeMusic server is. On Mac there are two problems with the installer: first, it adds two zeros to the percentages, showing from 100% to 1%, and second, its estimate of the time remaining is wildly wrong. After a few minutes it told me that there was about a minute left until completion. It kept telling me this for two hours, which was unsettling. After a bit more than two hours, the installation was complete, which is normal for my internet connection and the size of the files. Was there really a freeze? One thing I didn’t like about the installation was the lack of a progress bar. However I let the process take its time, and both of my installations were successful. My install took a long time, and I have a very fast internet connection. I think the installer downloads the actual content from the Internet, and this is why the initial download is quick, but the install is very long. A progress bar would certainly help reassure us. I am on a fast connection, too. I did the installation on the first day of the release, so I have a suspicion the drag was caused at least partially by too many accessing Make Music’s server capacity. I'm going to assume that you are on a pc.since you are virus scanning email..that must suck..virus scanning. I'd first make sure you have the right patches and stuff for windows. Second, make sure your virus program isn't screwing things up.
