I believe OO.org, at least, failed even if the screen session was
running attached to a local terminal.

Is that still a problem if you open screen from a terminal when you
log in, not from a ssh'd in login? cause open used to be busted like
that. If you ssh'd in and tried open, it would fail, but if you
opened the terminal locally, started screen, ssh in and attach, it
would work.

Just to be more explicit, I used the binary installer from the fink page,
activated unstable, updated (rsync), and made gcc4 the first package I
installed.

I have used dpkg to build it by hand. You may need to create the

Well, the reason seems straighforward, after looking at the jam.info file:

InstallScript: <<
mkdir -p %i/bin
cp bin.macosxppc/jam %i/bin
cp bin.macosxppc/mkjambase %i/bin
<<

Your friend can modify the file locally and see if it works--and we
should modify the CompileScript on this end.

[Fink-devel] "jam" package fails to build on a Macbook Pro

2006-06-22 Thread Daniel Fryer
A friend of mine is attempting to install jam-2.5 from fink in
preparation for building some software (he is not a developer, but one
of our few users with an intel mac to test on.) However, installing
jam fails, and this appears to be the reason:

Chmod1 bin.macosxx86/jam
...updated 33 target(s)...
/bin/rm -rf /sw/src/fink.build/root-jam-2.5-1
/bin/mkdir -p /sw/src/fink.build/root-jam-2.5-1/sw
/bin/mkdir -p /sw/src/fink.build/root-jam-2.5-1/DEBIAN
/usr/sbin/chown -R root:admin /sw/src/fink.build/root-jam-2.5-1
mkdir -p /sw/src/fink.build/root-jam-2.5-1/sw/bin
cp bin.macosxppc/jam /sw/src/fink.build/root-jam-2.5-1/sw/bin
cp: bin.macosxppc/jam: No such file or directory

Suddenly in between linking the executable and installing it, we make a
magical switch from the bin.macosxx86 to bin.macosppc directory (which
of course is fictional).

Can this be fixed?

P.S. I would appreciate a CC: on any relevant discussion.
Thanks,
Daniel

Though if you're building a package that needs access to Aqua (e.g.
openoffice.org*), screen won't work. I use VNC in such situations.

[Fink-devel] fink package only?

2006-06-22 Thread Jack Howarth
I am wondering if there is a fink command which will achieve the
following. I had a remote ssh session running while I built gcc4 on
a G4. In ssh session had a time-out before the gcc4-shlibs package
could be fully created. However I still have the root-gcc4-shlibs
directory. Is there some fink flag that will package this directory?
Or can I achieve this with a dpkg command? I would rather not repeat
the build as it is glacial on a G4. Thanks in advance.

As this is meant to be a clever marketing ploy to push the pagerank of
the main Fink homepage. Make sure you urge them to supply a link to:

http://finkproject.org/download.php OR the direct link to the page in
the Package Database.

Thank you!

[Fink-devel] Spread the word! Get us backlinks for your favourite package!

2006-06-22 Thread David H.
Hello Community.

Popularity is an important factor when it comes to driving an open
source project. Popularity and visitors to an open source project's
home page attract sponsors. Sponsors pay money so that we can ensure
Fink services its community better.

If you have a package in Fink that you maintain or you have an
application that you love to use, there is an easy way for you to help
us.

Go to the homepage of that package.
Check whether they provide a link to Fink's homepage. These backlinks
are very important as search engines calculate our pagerank based on
that.
If there is no link, get in touch with the author of the software or
the web-team and ask them respectfully to add a link.
Explain to them why you would like to see that link and why it would
be beneficial to their Mac user base.

Once you have done that and you succeeded, enjoy a cool drink of your
preference and post your success story to one of our mailing lists.
