Do i force the install of system-openssl-dev? i don't currently

installing another openSSL from fink?

openSSL from fink is always safer, in that it it guarantees you use
 headers
corresponding to the libraries. (+ : you're independent of the
 vagaries of
 Apple's versions and updates).

Currently, system-openssl-dev does a good job, too, by installing
symlinks in the fink tree to the system headers and libs.

[Fink-devel] Adding KDissert

2008-03-14 Thread Linus Gasser

Dear List,

I'm in the process of adding kdissert to the excellent list of
fink-packages. First I made some patch in order for kdissert to compile
correctly on MacOSX, then I tried myself on creating a kdissert.info
file to be able to compile it. It nearly succeeds, only the verification
at the end fails. I tried to add the corresponding line to
kdissert.info, but to no avail. What are the correct lines to add to
kdissert.info?

MacOSX 10.5.2

Looks like kdissert's build has some bugs. Those should all have
-module in their libfoo_la_LDFLAGS in the makefiles.

You will need to patch Makefile.in or Makefile.am for each of those .so
files.

Oop, I missed the attachment in the original mail.

I can't tell from the info file whether that build system is using
libtool, or using gcc/ld directly. If the former, add another
'LINKFLAGS' with '-module', if the latter, remove any -dynamiclib if
it's there, and add -bundle instead.

Also, if they're just modules (ie, plugin .so files) then you don't need
a separate -shlibs at all.

Kevin,
I would point out again that the vectorization support
in gcc 4.3.0 is enabled automatically at -O3. So it would be
worthwhile to make sure that all packages using gcc43 are
compiling at -O3 with the gcc43 compilers.

I too have come round to the conclusion that this is indeed the best
plan for action at this moment. I would suggest that we band together
and do this update rather quickly.

I am CCing fink-devel so that the maintainers of the 28 packages
concerned get a chance to act, but I think we should just test this
upgrade for each of these packages and then simply go ahead and change
any package that builds correctly with gcc43. As far as I know, no
problem with the switch from gcc42 to gcc43 has yet been reported.

Here are the package descriptions concerned:

 sci/avl.info
 sci/qprop.info
 sci/xfoil.info

I have confirmed that avl, qprop and xfoil build with gcc43 on Intel. I am
in the process of testing them to be sure they still run correctly. I'll
commit the updates once they have passed my run tests.

Octave has /sw/lib/gcc4.2/lib hardcoded in some of the scripts that are
used by other packages. We need to keep some order in the upgrade to
gcc4.3: First octave (or, for octave-atlas, first atlas, then
octave-atlas), then plplot, and perhaps fftw[3] and hdf5 before some
others. So there need to be some versioned dependencies, too. plplot
w/gcc43 needs to depend on an octave version that is upgraded to gcc43.

[Fink-devel] gopenmol still broken on Leopard

2008-03-14 Thread Jack Howarth
I just noticed that gopenmol was updated to build with
gcc43 but the packaging was not fixed to work on Leopard.
I have placed test packaging for a gopenmol-py package
on fink tracking. However the current packaging should
be fixable with a change like...

  FFLAGS=-O3 GL_LIBS='-lGL
/System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Libraries/libGL.dylib
-Wl,/System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Libraries/libGL.dylib'
TCLSH=%p/bin/tclsh PYTHON=%p/bin/python2.4 ./configure %c

As I mentioned in the fink tracking entry, the first instance of the framework
libGL dylib on the
GL_LIBS environmental is required to get configure to recognize that the
gopenmol graphics subsystem
can be built. The second instances (wrappered with -Wl,) is required to keep
the libtool in gopenmol
from eating the framework libGL instance on the link line.

This seems like it has something to do with the way that you've set up your

fink dumpinfo xmlto | grep PATH=

All of this appears to be due to some local environment setting (perhaps
system-wide) on your machine--whatever was done to put /usr/bin ahead

If you've been using Fink Commander, try the command line instead and see if

Exporting PATH won't do a thing. fink will _unset_ your user-level
