[Fink-devel] yafc/screen/rtorrent in leopard (updated .info files attached)

2008-04-07 Thread poppyer
Hi Devels,

Please kindly review in the attachment my updated .info files for the
following
   packages:

screen:
* add the --enable-colors256 to enable 256 colors terminal support
in GNU screen.

yafc:
* drop readline dependency and switch to readline5
* add --without-krb5, because the krb5_err.h head file is missing, otherwise
it won't compile.

libtorrent/rtorrent
* update to the newest release version, the current fink ones
doesn't compile.
* please also drop the libtorrent11 package, coz no other packages
are using it.

all related *.patch files are remain untouched

Cheers,
poppyer

 Hi,

Apologies for the cross-post to fink-users, hit the wrong address
 book entry :\

 See this tracker item:
 https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailatid=414256aid=1885674group_id=17203

I contacted the listed maintainer on Feb 14th 2008 and have not
 received a
response. Could the tracker item please be reopened and the package
 reconsidered for entry in Fink?

I'm willing to step up as the maintainer and keep up with new
 releases, etc.
Also, this package has been confirmed to build on 10.5 PPC and
 Intel with all
 validation passing.

 Hello again,

Alex Hansen suggested I'd be better off discussing the package here on
 fink-devel.

The latest version of the info files can be found here:
 http://delx.net.au/files/finkinfos

mplayer has been updated to 1.0rc2 with all available security
 patches. It
also builds on 10.4 10.5 on Intel and PPC.

libdvdnav has been modified to use the newest version of libdvdread
 in fink.

The only change to libx264-57-shlibs.info is to remove the
 dependency on
gdk-pixbuf. This isn't necessary for mplayer, but then gdk-pixbuf
 doesn't seem
to be needed for x264 either.

Please let me know if there's anything else that needs addressing.
 Thanks :)

I intended that to mean discussion here, and keeping the submission up-
to-date on the tracker. I tried building the mplayer there again and
it bombed due to a ChangeLog vs. Changelog issue again, because I had
forgotten that it was no longer up-to-date.

Sorry about that, I've updated the tracker to contain everything needed to
build the proposed package.

Beyond that, there are other logistical issues that we would

That being said, I don't think it would necessarily be a bad idea for
the project to allow for contributed binaries, as long as they pass a
 quality control check.

I don't know anything about binary distributions; but from vague
memories
of past readings, isn't it true that there are already some informal
such (at least partial) distributions _ (Todai ?, Mommsen ?, others ?).
Some of them might have a aim at being more or less complete; and
obviously some (Todai?) would have a strong support team
and resources behind..
I would think that if they could organise a clear motto among
themselves,
and pool resources, they could also draw on fink's resources, (an area
of their own _ or inside the fink tree _ on sourceforge, etc), and
that the
endeavour might be blessed as part of the fink project, as long as it
meets quality asurances like you mention above.

[Fink-devel] Fink not understanding private Shlib declaration

2008-04-07 Thread Trevor Harmon
I'm testing a new version of the lpsolve-java package, but it's not
validating because it includes a private library without a Shlibs
declaration. Obviously, the fix is to add the Shlib declaration, but
for some reason it's not working. What I've added looks like this:

Shlibs: !%p/lib/liblpsolve55j.jnilib

But I still get this error with -m --build-as-nobody:

Error: package contains a dylib with no corresponding Shlibs entry (/
sw/lib/liblpsolve55j.jnilib - liblpsolve55j.jnilib 5.5.0)
If this is a private library, add '!/sw/lib/
liblpsolve55j.jnilib' to the Shlibs field.

I don't see anything wrong with the Shlibs field I added. Have I
discovered a bug in Fink?

I've attached the .info file.

Thanks,

Trevor

Any reason you didn't use the package submission tracker? It's
really, really hard to validate packages properly over email,
especially for 3 unrelated submissions.

Have you tried the rtorrent that was just added over the weekend? And
I believe you _cannot_ revert to libtorrent as the name of the

And since I believe that package maintainer is still active, have you
contacted him?

As for screen and yafc--they're open for new maintainers.

Was there any other warning in the build log just prior to the
complaint about the private shlib? I had problems with a package where
the complaint about the private shlib went away once I changed
something that eliminated a warning (not an outright failure) just
before the shlib validation. I'll have to go digging to figure out
what it was, though, as my memory is quite foggy. (even though it has
only been a couple weeks since I ran into this).

It is indeed a bug, which I've previously reported. The problem is
that the validator is checking the library's install_name but telling
you to use the actual pathname in the error message. These are not
necessarily the same thing. So basically, fink is telling you to do
one thing, but actually wants something else and you have to read its
mind (or source code) to know that. :)

Do an 'otool -L /sw/lib/liblpsolve55j.jnilib' to get the install_name
(the first listed pathname) and use that for the Shlibs field.

If that is the case, you'll need to patch the package to make a bundle

I'll see if I can find the time tomorrow to fix the validator of the
other issue Daniel mentioned, as well as checking that jnilib files are

Because the build of this tool is slightly broken in that it's not
giving a full install_name when linking. (From your previous post:)

$ otool -L /sw/lib/liblpsolve55j.jnilib
/sw/lib/liblpsolve55j.jnilib:

That should be this:

$ otool -L /sw/lib/liblpsolve55j.jnilib
/sw/lib/liblpsolve55j.jnilib:
/sw/lib/liblpsolve55j.jnilib (compatibility version 5.5.0, current

You can either build it with:

gcc -o liblpsolve55j.jnilib -dynamiclib -compatibility_version 5.5 \
~ -install_name /sw/lib/liblpsolve55j.jnilib files

or:

gcc -o liblpsolve55j.jnilib -bundle files

And from what Peter said, make sure that it doesn't have -flat_namespace
in the link line.

If it uses gnu libtool and automake, usually you're fine with something
like this in the Makefile.in:

liblpsolve55j_la_LDFLAGS: -module -avoid-version

Actually, I just looked; according to
 http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Java/Conceptual/
 Java14Development/05-CoreJavaAPIs/CoreJavaAPIs.html
they allow jnilibs to be dylibs or bundles.

Yes, but it will break if the jnilib is a flat namespace dylib, so
 if it
is going to have a check for jnilib it should check that it is
 either a
bundle or a two level dylib.

What a mess ! Mixing language and linking ...

It is indeed a bug, which I've previously reported. The problem is
that the validator is checking the library's install_name but telling
you to use the actual pathname in the error message. These are not
necessarily the same thing. So basically, fink is telling you to do
one thing, but actually wants something else and you have to read its
mind (or source code) to know that. :)

I think I fixed this bug in fink CVS HEAD a few weeks ago. I mean, I
know I *tried* to fix it, I *think* I succeeded.
