Re: [Fink-devel] Please Help Improve the Stability of Fink

2004-02-15 Thread David R. Morrison
To help get things started, I've added "verified by" entries for all of
the commits to 10.3/stable from the past month where the CVS log suggested
this was appropriate.

However, there is still a lot of work to do along these lines, and I
encourage everyone to roll up their sleeves and help out. It would be
great if we could finally release a binary distribution for 10.3.

Would it be possible to update the aspell and related dictionaries on
stable tree to those on unstable tree, so that the unstable version of
bluefish could be put on stable tree. The actual stable version of
bluefish and does not work with the actual stable version of aspell. I
reported this a long time ago (July last year if I remember well),
since the maintainer of bluefish does not work on it since June last
year.

Kevin Horton (for 10.2.3 unstable) and I for 10.3 unstable have already
put the 0.12 version in unstable in December. A new version of bluefish
will be soon available.

Should we say bluefish (a html, perl, php, etc... programming editor)
is condamned to have no spellchecking and to be on unstable for years?

[Fink-devel] Please Help Improve the Stability of Fink

2004-02-14 Thread David R. Morrison
Dear Fink folks,

As many of you know, the "stable" tree in 10.3 was created from the
corresponding tree in 10.2. Everything which was moved to 10.3 builds OK
on 10.3, but there are a number of cases where the software provided by
the package no longer works, or doesn't work as expected.

We need to improve this situation by analyzing the packages in 10.3/stable
for stability in this sense. Once we know that the packages there are
stable, we'll be able to make our first binary release for 10.3 (which
should have the same quality as previous binary releases). In fact, once
we get to that point, I'll plan on a simultaneous release of Fink 0.6.2
for 10.2 and Fink 0.7.0 for 10.3.

You can help! I've set up some wiki pages at
  http://ranger.befunk.com/phpwiki/index.php/Fink
where we can keep track of the progress of this project. If you can test
a package from 10.3/stable and verify its stability, please edit the
corresponding page of the wiki and "sign" as the person who has validated
the package. If you find a problem, please report it to the package
maintainer and on this list. We'll plan to remove the problem packages
which don't get fixed prior to the binary distribution.

  Thanks,
  Dave
