Have not followed this thread, so apologies if I am saying stuff already been said. I hadn't heard that, and I doubt its true (but would be interested in any links anyone has that discuss this) - attributes are the best way to make your XML size compact and IMO, succinct and readable. Plus, they are in wide use today. Even if future specs call for their removal, it would be a big undertaking to get acceptance of that radical of a change.
