[flexcoders] BETA 2: DateField appears behind TitleWindow when clicked

2006-04-01 Thread Alex Alex
Hello,

I have a TitleWindow and inside I hold a signup form.

In the signup form I ask for the Birthdate using a DateField.

When clicked on for the first time the popup calendar appears on top
of the TitleWindow. BUT if I want to pick another date and I click on
the small calendar icon for a second time the popup calendar appears
behind the TitleWindow.

Any ideas on how to make it appear always on top?

Thanks,
Alexander

But if a form fails the validation how can I prevent the execution of

BTW,

You can go to this url;

I plan on automating this wiki with my DocumentX project that is Flex.
Then we can see the real power of Flex documenting itself with the

Re: [flexcoders] Re: BETA 2: How to validate a form before actually submitting

2006-04-01 Thread Marc Archuleta
Here's a code snippet that works in Flex 1.5. It may
need some refactoring for version 2. This code uses
the StringValidator. If Validator.isStructureValid
fails, myfield_ti will be highlighted in red and there
will be a little message saying it's a required field
(or whatever the particular validator has by default,
or a custom message you setup). Check the
documentation for other types of validators you can
use or extend one of them and do your own logic. You
can set custom messages in attributes of the validator
or through a custom validator.

 MXML

mx:Model id=myModel
myFieldName{myfield_ti.text}/myFieldName
/mx:Model

mx:StringValidator field=myModel.myFieldName/

 ACTIONSCRIPT
// do this in the method that runs when you click your
submit button

Validator.enable(this,myModel.myFieldName);
if (Validator.isStructureValid(this, 'myModel')) {
//add code here to submit form
}

[flexcoders] Cairngorm 2 and mx:States

As I'm implementing the usage of the Cairngorm 2 microarchitecture on

addChild() method for FormWindow, enabling us to attach new children within an
internal component. This has worked fine up until Beta 2.Simplified Example:--

Extending MXML components (change from 1.5 to 2)

Tony,

Yes, we absolutely intend to continue supporting extending MXML
with MXML, with the constraint that only one set of children be specified
anywhere in the chain of derived components or the component instantiation.

What you're seeing is a bug in beta 2 – the framework
incorrectly raises the "multiple sets of children in base and derived
components" error in cases where the superclass (A.mxml in your example)
in fact has no children.

This will be fixed for beta 3; the workaround in beta 2 is to
insert the following Script/ code into the superclass, e.g. A.mxml:

mx:Script

/**

*
This namespace is used for undocumented APIs -- usually implementation

*
details -- which can't be private because they need to visible

*
to other classes.

*
APIs in this namespace are completely unsupported and are likely to

*
change in future versions of Flex.

*/

namespace
mx_internal = http://www.adobe.com/2006/flex/mx/internal;

override
mx_internal function
setDocumentDescriptor(desc:mx.core.UIComponentDescriptor):void

{

if (mx_internal::_documentDescriptor
mx_internal::_documentDescriptor.properties.childDescriptors)

{

if (desc.properties.childDescriptors)

{

throw new Error(Multiple sets of visual children have been specified for
this component (base component definition and derived component
definition).);

Re: [flexcoders] Cairngorm 2 and mx:States

2006-04-01 Thread Scott Langeberg

Actually, application state can be stored in the Model. If you look at the login example, you'll see them storing a workflowState variable. However, if you're talking about your views, then that is probably the proper time to use the mx:States objects.

2006-04-01 Thread Matt Chotin
In addition to all of the community resources out there and the labs
Wiki we are investigating adding some more functionality to the
Developer Center that will provide more sample code and task-based
solutions.

I currently own most sample content for the Flex 2 release and despite
the problems that you're seeing in the early betas (and you will
continue to see later) by the time we ship I hope to have a more
significant samples ecosystem in place. It just takes time and I'm
working with limited resources :-)

You know I'm seeing allot of new users having problems with getting
their head around Flex. I understand the problems having gone through
it. Most of them see due to a lack of examples and are quite
elementary. Searching this group is dead slow. I have seen some very
excited people come through with real world questions and I want to
help where I can.

Could we not set this up so that we can add tipes and working samples
to the group? I create umpteen test/trial and error stuff while I
learn and I'm, certainly willing to share. Web services in
conjunction with flex, XML, design issues, populating components
using various techniques etc..

Could we not post this stuff? Say a tip has [TIP:Flex 2.0] in the
subject and a tutorial [TUTORIAL:Flex 2.0] something like that?

I'm aware of IFBin, but not willing to contribute to a pay for
service that benefits only few... No offence to the IFBin guy's.

Their just seems to be no really easy way to share unless you blog
(which demands time).

Or maybe that would pollute to much, I can see some stuff even being
handy to more experience users.

Just a thought.

Jason
