[flexcoders] A Viewstack but not with Canvases

2010-04-09 Thread Leonardo Camargo
Hi,

I have a complex flex app I've been building for months, most of the
containers are Boxes,VBoxes, HBoxes.. now I need to have two layers: my
current app(1st layer), and a videodisplay that will take the whole
space(2nd layer). That would be easily done(I assume) if both of my layers
were Canvas and I used a Viewstack to switch between them. But apparently
the Viewstack won't work properly with Boxes...

Assuming you guys got my problem, any ideas?

Best regards,
Leonardo C.

Re: [flexcoders] Developing Flash/Flex on Linux

2009-10-22 Thread Leonardo Camargo
A new linux based IDE would be awesome, I only wished you guys had started
developing it a year ago, cause now, assuming you get to it, it's gonna be
another yet till it's out.

Besides, Intellij Idea provides a free license for open-source projects
 developers http://www.jetbrains.com/idea/buy/buy.jsp#openSource.
But I guess an Eclipse-based IDE will always find its audience ;)

Personally, I'm not all that concerned about Flex Builder running on
Linux, in and of itself. Now if they ported the Creative Suite as well, I
would be totally psyched. Unfortunately, as long as CS is only available on
Windows or OSX, I'm going to be tied to those platforms.

That being said, for those who want to code on Linux, IntelliJ IDEA is an
excellent editor, and feature for feature, FDT will have a very hard time
competing with it with their current pricing. IDEA is $250 for a single
developer license, and that includes MXML support, integrated debugger, Flex
Unit integrated with the IDE, etc. To get the same features in FDT, you'd
have to pay more than 3X that.

I don't get what is so hard about supporting Linux.

 Eclipse is Java based.

Eclipse runs perfectly on pretty much all platforms.

Not sure why Adobe took a big dump on Flexbuilder Linux.

I was totally OK with using Flexbuilder on Linux with all the missing
features that Windose Flexbuilder has except that Flexbuilder Linux never
worked right even though it was crippled.

I have never used FDT but I have heard it works pretty well.

If people are having a hard time getting Java software to run
 cross-platform then I question why.

The countless other Eclipse plugins I use don't have a 2 year lag between
Windose and Linux versions because JAVA IS CROSS-PLATFORM.

If you guys make FDT work on Linux I will check it out.

Adobe obviously doesn't give half a crap about Linux.

[flexcoders] Skinning a VSlider [2 Attachments]

2009-08-16 Thread Leonardo Camargo
Hi all,

I need to change the appearance of a VSlider using the following thumbSkin
and trackSking (I've attached them, I hope they went through).

It's intended to be a volume control, and as you can see, kinda looks like
that of Youtube.

The problem is, the trackSkin never covers the whole path, so the thumb is
moving beyond the track in both edges, and I need not only that the whole
path is skinned but that a margin remains after both extremities (again,
kinda similar to Youtube's).

Any ideas anyone?

Regards,
Leonardo C.

Re: [flexcoders] Books - Flex

2009-05-06 Thread Leonardo Camargo
Hi Gustavo,
well, that highly depends on what are your immediate needs for this
knowledge and how much time you have.
Others here will advise you to simply look for internet tutorials, which are
indeed great and enough.

But I just like to buy and read books :)
Right after I found out that I would need to learn flex, first book I read
was Learning Flex 3 http://oreilly.com/catalog/9780596517328/, in my
opinion it's the best book for absolute beginners, covers all the important
fundaments. I read it within a week, and soon after I was able to do some
tinkering in some projects at my job.
After this, I've read AdvancED Flex
3http://www.friendsofed.com/book.html?isbn=9781430210276,
also a very good one in my opinion.

From then on I pretty much stood with internet resources. Specially in light
of the fact that there's no books on BlazeDS, red5, especific frameworks, or
many other technologies you may need to use.

Att,
Leonardo
