@Ben: That's what I am currently doing too.

@Jeffry: For sure, Flex app has to be loaded first. This detection 
should only occur when the app is running.

  AIR does, but so far as I know Flex doesn't.

  Flex is usually delivered through a browser.  IF they can load it, we 
just kind of assume they are connected.
