[Flexradio] 683 comment

2006-09-20 Thread root [knesbitt]
Paul,
I can vouch for the ASUS P5W with the Intel 975X chipset. Not
particularly cheap but far superior performance to my previous AMD
athlon board.
I'm running the P5WD2 with a non-dual core cpu (P-4 HT LGA 775, 3.4 Ghz).
It simply purrs along with 683 feeding a Firebox over 1394. CPU load
averages about 6-9% running PowerSDR in "letter box" mode (@96k). Don't
skimp on the memory for this board. Look at the v/low latency dual
channel (DDR2 800) stuff, as its my understanding that memory
performance is more important than an over abundance in capacity (in
this specific case).

Good luck!

My pc doesn't seem to keep up with the new UI features. CPU reading
varies a lot, from 50% to 70% generally. Tuning is not responsive as
before with mouse wheel, there's a lot more going on as the display
changes. Popping (or dropouts) in received audio is very noticable,
audio/dsp buffers at 1024/1024. I don't think there's anything wrong
with the software, and I like the new features, but I think it's time for
a new motherboard and cpu.

Here's what I'm looking at:

ASUS P5W DH DELUXE/WIFI-AP Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 Conroe 2.66GHz 4M sharing L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor

Then I need a new case, 500W power supply, new drives, the works. The old
pc gets shoved down to the next desk and becomes the #2 machine.
A new pc like this will just barely keep me afloat for media center and hdtv
as well.

Re: [Flexradio] missing DLL

2006-09-20 Thread Tim Ellison
Tom,

You have one of three problems

1.) MDAC is corrupted
2.) Your version of XP has been reinstalled back to its original release
3.) MSDART.dll is damaged.

Re-install MDAC to resolve this problem.

You can get MDAC 2.8 from here if you have a legal copy of Windows

[Flexradio] SVN Upgrading - PLL options

2006-09-20 Thread Kevin Hobbs
Hi All;

I installed the Tortoise SVN ... everything worked fine ... the dual RX is
really neat.

When the new software version ran the first time I had to tell it all about
my SDR configuration again ... when it got to asking me about my PLL, it
only had options for 10 and 20 MHz ... not that it makes a big deal, but it
would be nice if it 100 MHz was also in the pull down selection.

Re: [Flexradio] Sub RX-split?

2006-09-20 Thread Robert McGwier
When I chose split, and I pressed the MOX button, the frequency
across the grid did not change and the power spectrum for the
transmitted voice had carrier at zero frequency. Either we change the
frequency readings across the top (which are incorrect when the MOX
button is pushed and we are in split) or we have the "green box" on
transmit.

Re: [Flexradio] Which way round?

2006-09-20 Thread Eric Wachsmann
Dave,

This reminded me of something. You won't get good audio output if you have
something plugged into both the Line Out and the headphone output on the
MP3+. This will load down the output and you'll get very little drive out
of the radio. Perhaps this was the issue?

Split mode is working as best as I can tell. There was a problem with Split

Will be very useful indeed for breaking a CW DX pile-up working split!
Sure sounds nice. The effect is best with headphones, I think. My
SDR-1000 is a whole week and 124 cw qso's old. Already have seen great
enhancements.
Can't do that with other rigs out there.

It just keeps getting better and better!. (it's true, like the ad copy

Re: [Flexradio] Sub RX

2006-09-20 Thread Bob McGwier
Jerald:

Hover over the VFOb numbers (on the right at the top of the display)
and use the mouse wheel to tune both VFO's to exactly the same
frequency. Then hover over the 100 Hz position and mouse wheel up and
down. You should see the "green box" for the subRX move around with
respect to the main VFOa frequency.

Re: [Flexradio] Sub RX

2006-09-20 Thread Jerald Jones
Regarding the 683 Sub RX , I seem to have no way to tune the sub receiver.
The pan controls work fine but I do not have the slightest idea how to view
the freq of more than one receiver or to tune more than one receiver. Also
the Vox has not worked in any of the versions. Perhaps the reason is that I
use the Santa Cruz audio card.

Re: [Flexradio] Which way round?

2006-09-20 Thread David Ackrill
That's a relief then.

The only time it really mattered, for me, was Red on the Right at the
Rear. Which indicated that the Red phase went to the right hand lug of
an 11kV triff box as you looked at it from the back of the switchgear...

That was before the IEE and the EU standards people got involved though...

Anyway, so the MP3+ connections wont be the problem.

I'm still at a loss as to know why my SDK1K would not transmit though.

The simple SubRX with same mode and filter was not too difficult to
implement thanks to the facilities that Bob and Frank provided (a LONG
time ago!). However, the code is nowhere near ready for individual
modes/filters/other settings. And to add them would be a fair amount of
work. I'll be honestwe may never have those options in this
console.

One of the major reasons for adopting the new architecture is to address
this particular problem (data model -- removed from GUI). It is being
built in such a way that this is no-brainer. To build it into the
current console would be at least 2x work at best undoing our current
source code data model. All of this is to say that you may have to wait
until the new console for more Multi-RX functionality.

[Flexradio] Which way round?

2006-09-20 Thread David Ackrill
Whilst my SDR1000 is away being repaired, I have been looking at the
connections between the Soundblaster MP3+ and the radio.

Line in when to line in and line out to line out, so that's OK, but
checking the red and white connectors shows that the red is connected to
the ring (middle connection) and White to the tip on each lead.

Is that the right way round? I'd have thought that the red went to the
tip, but I could be wrong.

Anyone else using the MP3+ care to check for me please?

[Flexradio] Feature Request List

2006-09-20 Thread A.R.S. - W5AMI
I noticed today that I can delete my requests in the "Feature Request"
system. Two requests I made a while back have been implemented on the
new SVN so I decided to delete them so not to clutter the request
list. I don't know if this is exactly the proper procedure. Being a
programmer myself, I know how version control, clutter and other
things can add to my confusion and daily hair pulling.

Eric, would it help for us users to go back and delete these requests
we made if said request has been implemented?

By the way, I am very pleased with the new sub rx and other things in

It believe it is just a zip of the binary files as opposed to a complete
installer (similar to SVN) if that is what you were asking.

Re: [Flexradio] 683 Zip Download question

2006-09-20 Thread A.R.S. - W5AMI
Jerry,

If you need to pick and choose which dll, etc. to update, you need to
use Tortoise instead. The zip contain the entire system, less the
database. You can unzip the entire thing into an empty directory and
then import or copy your db there.

More properly, Windows locks dlls that it *thinks are in use*, which
may or may not be the actual case. It's not unheard of for a program
to terminate (typically abnormally) and for Windows to not realize
that the dll is now free. More likely in complex programs with lots
of interacting dlls. Especially if one dll calls things in another
dll. There is a tool around that lets you look at what Windows is
thinking, but I can't recall the name. I just reboot before doing
things like installations.

Use TortoiseSVN and get the latest FULL BINARY DISTRIBUTION at anytime
you like:
http://www.flex-radio.com/download_files/PowerSDR/Docs/TortoiseSVN.pdf

Toward the bottom of the document, you will see the link for the BINARY
distribution. Use an empty subdirectory. Copy and paste that into
TortoiseSVN (repo-browser or update window) and you will receive the
binaries automatically.

The brute force method I use is to simply delete the files and do an

I believe that Peter has probably hit on the correct interpretation. If
so (and I will test this today) and TortoiseSVN is NOT giving a "cannot

Windows locks dll's that are in use and refuses to allow them to be

Re: [Flexradio] spam: Sub RX

2006-09-20 Thread Robert McGwier
Phil's SDRconsole was the first to support split receivers for
Windows. The differences in this implementation is it makes use of the
DttSP facility which has been in the dsp code since the official 1.0
release including panning control. The second receiver is under VFO-B
control that is identical to VFO-A, and the second receiver passband is
displayed on the GUI in a very usable fashion. If you switch VFO-A
frequency, VFO-B and the sub RX continue to stay on the correct
frequency (up to size of your IF, determined by the sample rate).

Frank and I are ecstatic that the facility which has been in the dsp
code for a loonnnggg time, including the support for panning, is
supported in a usable fashion on PowerSDR 1.X.

Thank you Eric.
