[Flexradio] Flex PowerSDR 2.7.2 with KE9NS version T7 is now out

2016-06-05 Thread Jim Candela

I just downloaded the latest KE9NS version T7.

The latest feature is the ability to use the RX2 meter for looking at ALC, EQ,
etc. values while using RX1 meter for something else like forward power. This
allows those without an RX2 option to use the RX2 meter, and also for Flex 1500
and Flex 3000 owners to do the same. This is a really useful feature added.

The more recent installs are self extracting, and install automatically. They
add a new desktop Icon, and leave the original icon alone. This way you can run
the stock Flex 2.7.2 or the enhanced version with all the mods Darrin has
added. The original database file is left untouched. Going back to the original
program is like, "gosh, I used to use that?" :-)

To see all the new stuff, you have to expand the display, so a large monitor is
handy. Also these changes require .NET 4.5.2 for Windows added, so Windows 7
and higher are required (no XP).

Trying to understand the problem description. The Mic jack is an audio input
with PTT. There will be no transmit power or audio coming out of that Jack.

There is a stereo jack on the back meant to drive amplified speakers, and there
is a BNC on the back for RF output.

Re: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Digest, Vol 131, Issue 5

2016-03-08 Thread Jim Candela
The Flex 3000 hardware is capable of 192 KB sample rate, and the KE9NS software
offers that option in the selection from revision OS onward added to 2.7.2
software. I run my Flex 3000 at 192KB, and for the most part it works fine. The
other part of this is the Firewire cable, the Firewire port, and the computer.
I have heard that even with the Flex 5000, there are some situations where 192
is problematic, and 96 is more stable.
I don't understand all the hurtles for a Firewire port to work, but perhaps
look at the CPU utilization. If your CPU is running over 20% at 96 Kb sample
rate, then perhaps it's best to just leave that setting alone. With my AMD
FX-8350 4G 8 Core processor, power SDR runs at 2-4% CPU load.

In fairness to Flex though, those that "brick" a Flex using 3rd party software
should not try to get free technical support from Flex to resolve the issue.

The FLEX-3000 will not operate at 192 K sampling rate.  You cannot set
this from PowerSDR, so you must be using the Firewire control panel
which is not recommended.

2015-07-11 Thread Jim Candela

Check your S-meter in the Flex,  go to the Tests tab of Setup.  Click the box
in the lower left corner labeled. Enable HW Generator.    Put the radio in
any ham band,  mode in DSB.  the reading above the s-meter should be -24dbm
plus or minus 1dbm.

I tried what Dudley said with my Flex 3000. I get -38 dbm. Maybe the receiver
is muted a little?

It appears that my 5000 S Meter is at least 10 db shy of where it needs to be.
This is based on comparison to my Icom 9800. I hear everything well and pre amp
works fine. Is there a process to recalibrate the S Meter???

What makes you think the 9800 is correct , I'm willing to bet it is the flex
that is correct .

If you have a friend with a calibrated RF signal generator, I would check
it before I
would send it in for re-calibration.

Perhaps one of the RF final transistors are croaked? Remember an SDR radio
still has hardware inside. I was just
looking at the schematic, and Flex uses two Mitsubishi RD70 FET's in the output
stage. I think this is the device:
