[Flexradio] Set up Digi

2011-02-01 Thread Larry Otto
Hello All -

Am running F5K with PSDR 2.0.16.

Am trying to configure F5K to run Digital.

Have set up HRD/DM780 according to instruction on wiki, but have run into some
problems:

HRD sees Flex, and PTT seems to work, but there is a delay of up to 15
seconds before
any command is executed. When HRD is initialized, it reads frequency right
away, but subsequently,
there are delays. Seems like there is a conflict with the ports.

PTT will activate the relay in the Flex, at least I think that is what is
happening, but cannot get it to
transmit any RF.

VAC is active, and mode is set to DIGU.

BTW, it worked while I was running v 1.18.6. Also, this version is still on the
computer. Could this be the
source of a conflict?

What am I missing?

[Tim] There have been numerous reports of this happening with HRD.

I recommend that you setup Fldigi first. It is easier and does not make you
use HRD as middleware to get CAT functionality. If you can get Fldigi
working, then you know your configuration with PowerSDR is working correctly
https://fedorahosted.org/fldigi/wiki/Documentation/HOWTO/PowerSDR

[Tim] No. Each version of PowerSDR installs itself in a separate folder and
nothing is shared.

What am I missing?
[Tim] Probably nothing.

Larry,

I use DM780 without running HRD by configuring PTT to use a virtual comm port
instead of via HRD. I find that the switching speed is fine whereas I
experienced significant delays when going through HRD.

For what its worth I am running a Flex 3K with 64 bit W7, the latest V2
PowerSDR and the latest betas of HRD with no discernable delay problems - I
had them with V1 PowerSDR but they disappeared completely with my V2
upgrade. I use VSPE in the splitter mode and VAC and BobSmeter and
easyPal and everyone gets along just fine - go figure.

I use miniDeluxe in place of HRD. It allows quick response to all
commands.

See this link:

While I run the Flex 3000, I uninstalled the older version of PowerSDR just
to be safe.

[Flexradio] Set up

2005-12-19 Thread Lee A Crocker
I have been struggling to get the PA portion of the
radio set up.

My hardware is

P4 HT 3.3 with 1GB ram
Presonus Soundcard via Fire Wire.
SDR-1000
300W precision dummy load
35 amp Astron P/S
Measured SWR is 1:1 aka no measured reflected power at
100w on this dummy load.

I can get the rx to balance nicely, and it seems to
work perfectly and I can get the transmitter to
transmit. I have measured as much as 128W on an
external power meter, which is also what I measure on
the internal meter.

When I hit the MOX control even in SSB mode with no
mic connected, I get as much as 120W on some bands.
If I modulate with the mic connected the waveform on
the screen goes higher but I don't see any more peak
power. If I hit the MOX control in the CW mode I also
get the same power out. I do not have anything
plugged into the key jack at the present time, but
the behavior was the same when I had a paddle plugged
into the SDR.

When I try to do the PA calibration, I can get it to
come into spec on 160. When it gets to 80M I can't
get the power below 110W. The power is lower on the
remainder of the bands and 80M seems to be the most
out of whack. When I try to reduce power using the
PWR control there is no response.

I tried the various procedures outlined in the manual
and it doesn't seem to change anything.

Any ideas?

Have you tried measuring the voltage from the sound card? (Soundcard
calibration test). I know you are not supposed to have to do it, but it
sounds like (no pun intended) you are getting something on the line
out of the sound card that shouldn't be there.

Also try disabling all other soundcards in the system except for the
firebox.

Hi all,

I am a brand new user, so pardon any strange questions. I am operating
XP have 1 watt unit, operating with 1.4.3 M-44 audio card

1. I operate at 15-20 wpm using the New Keyer having timing pblms in
the Iambic mode. The squeeze letters C, Q, K are very difficult to
complete most times. I have no pblms with my K2 ProIII. It seems
that the monitored tone is a little late. My friend tried it at his 30
wpm he had mucho pblms. Not so bad at my speeds. Comments?

[Eric] You might try using the v1.4.4 with the serial keyer as this
seems to give us the best results in the lab. Also, try turning the Hi
Resolution timer option on the DSP-Keyer tab on/off.

2. On CW transmit with (no PA) with Power settings greater than 60%
there are continuous spurs abt 60kc wide with terrible rcvd audio. The
monitored audio is screechy also. When Power % brought down under 60%,
Xmt bandwidth monitored audio are ok. Comments ?

[Eric] This sounds like the Delta 44 is set to +4dBu outputs instead of
the -10dBv as shown in the Delta 44 Quick Start Guide. This would
overdrive the amplifier during TX and produce very loud audio during RX.
If this is set correctly, then this is the first I have heard of this.

3. I have just installed the Shuttle Pro 2. It works well when the
Shuttled is programmed to keyboard strokes. How do I program for
non-keyboard actions, i.e. NR, NB, ANF ??

[Eric] There is a complete key map showing which options are currently
available as keystrokes at the following url:
http://www.flex-radio.com/keymap.xls. Use this spreadsheet in
combination with the ShuttlePro to program other functions by using the
keystrokes as specified.

I still feel that the DSP should be a bit more aggressive am trying it
all out..

[Eric] I assume you're talking about the AGC here. The interesting
thing is that everyone seems to want this a different way. Some like it
fast, but others complain that it is too slow. The bottom line is that
eventually we should be able to give everyone what they want in terms of
controls which manipulate the AGC.

Re: [Flexradio] Set-Up questions

2005-08-02 Thread ecellison
Eric

Even though I have only had an hour or so on the paddles, this is a nice
job, and I think what we as users need to do is to experiment with all the
settings. I did have the 'feeling' that serial was the most responsive, and
you confirmed why that should be.

Buffer settings appeared to effect the sidetone latency (I guess they
should). Some experimentation here would be in order on the user side, with
perhaps a spreadsheet. I have a fast system Max loading of CPU is always
under 20%, so some of my observations may be jaded.

The thing I stumbled on was not having PTT enabled, and wouldn't key. I been
IandQ ing it so long that I do it automatically. It didn't seem to make a
difference before 1.4.x

In any case nice job, we need to play with it a little. In the end I think I
will go back to keyer at this point and see how that works. Not a criticism,
but Keyers have come a long way in firmware. The advantage of software
however is that it should work with n1mm, writelog etc to create the
exchange.

Thanks for all youse guys hard work. I am on the air at the right time
(smile).
