So, maybe I can increase the swap file size, and
certainly REDUCE my very unreasonable visibility,
20 meters, or BOTH ...

The renderer uses an hardcoded far plane of 120 km so with a visibility
120k you load more tiles in memory but you can't see them.

Note, Windows is not completely out of memory,
since I was able to open Word, and commence writing
this, while still in the debugger ... with several
other windows open ... ???

Perhaps that the system allows *only* 1GB per process ;-)

Harald.

That's an interesting point. A quick google comes up with this
MSDN page that seems to indicate that XP uses a 2/2 split of
process address space, with an optional boot flag that will get
you to 3G.

[Flightgear-devel] Winter Textures

2005-10-21 Thread Erik Hofman

Hi,

Sometimes it's nice to do something rather braindead after a day of hard
work. This time it has resulted in a set of snow covered winter textures
for FlightGear:

ftp://ftp.uni-duisburg.de/FlightGear/Misc_erh/winter.tar.bz2

After downloading the archive you can just extract them in the root of
the base directory (either FlightGear or FlightGear/data).

If you want to keep the original textures, just rename Textures and
Textures.high.

Erik

BTW. The sources are also available:
 ftp://ftp.uni-duisburg.de/FlightGear/Misc_erh/wt-source.tar.bz2

Huh, since when can you protect a .tar.bz2 with a user/password combination?

I've downloaded the winter.tar.bz2 file again and it's working fine for me.

It might well be, but it's not for the rest of us :-)

Error 550 here (Not a directory) for both those files.

I'm looking forward to having some variation in the FG scenery especially with
winter now approaching again..,

Cheers,

You will have to save it using the right mouse button and Save As
otherwise the file might get decompressed by the browser.

But I've created a ZIP file now:

Heh, automated tools don't provide much in the way of debugging
aids. :)

The files lack read permission:

First thank you Erik for that wonderful idea, I am very curious about
the new winter clothes.
Secondly, I could not download the first file(s) and either the
winter.zip. *No* problem with downloading the P51 flight envelope charts
of the same folder.

Just as a feedback.

Re: [Flightgear-devel] Never ending story: Building SimGear CVS under Cygwin

2005-10-21 Thread Ralf Gerlich

Hi,

was this resolved somehow? I'm trying to get current
FlightGear+TerraGear compiled on pure Cygwin (no -mno-cygwin) and get
the same problem on compiling SimGear.

I have installed opengl and freeglut and I don't find the WGL_...
symbols anywhere except for simgear/screen/extensions.hxx, where it only
is defined if GL_ARB_multisample is not defined.

GL/glxext.h defines GL_ARB_multisample and seems to be included
indirectly over some levels from GL/gl.h

I applied a quick fix, removing the WGL_... #defines in extensions.hxx
from the surrounding #ifdef and now SimGear compiles, but I didn't yet
get to running FlightGear.

BTW @Norman: What version of OpenAL did you use for preparing the
OpenAL-binaries for Cygwin to be found on your site? Did you apply any
patches to that?

Best regards,
Ralf

Hi Erik,
your braindead work resulted in an rather impressive feeling how it
will look like here two months later - I just flew around the local area
with your textures loaded. There are only two textures (sand and some
sort of grass/light green) which have to be improved for winter use as
sand might also cover some snow in regions where you have a real winter
season.

This is the first step towards seasonal textures.
Now I will get back to the normal textures until winter season has come.
Thank you
Georg

Ralf Gerlich schrieb:

Hi Ralf,
the discussion caused some changes in the CVS files, the last change was
due to the HUGE error (HUGE - HUGE_VAL).
After that at least Ima and me had no problems compiling SimGear and FG
cvs with *gcc 3.3.3* !!!
David Luff gave some hints how to change some files to be able to
compile FG with *gcc 3.4.4* and Ima Sudonim made a CVS diff already
after realizing these changes and compiling all the stuff succesfully
with gcc 3.4.4.

It is now up to Erik Hofman to put these changes into the actual FG CVS. :-)
Your chances are not bad to compile succesfully within the next time!
