[Flightgear-devel] control reset...

2007-10-27 Thread SydSandy
Almost forgot , shouldn't resetting control surfaces also reset trim controls
to zero ?
I can add these fixes I'm proposing , but would like some input before going
ahead ...
I'm sure long time users probably already have these settings in thier own
configurations , I'm thinking of new users...
Cheers

Just as a quick follow up. Here is a picture of the sort of vehicle
I'm talking about. The 3d model is relatively simple and doesn't have
all the little details of lights and mirrors so that stuff we wouldn't
need to worry about. There's never been any textures associated with
this model so if we just assigned colors to the faces that would
 probably be good enough:

your lucky, before I switched to the Jeep I began with a truck very
similar to yours (from my Me-323 heavylift project), so I have a basic
FDM already. You can have it if you like.

If you can send me the Model, animating steering and suspension is
easy.

For what it's worth, back in 2000-2002 we were putting sensors and
huds and warning systems on these sorts of vehicles. We put all our
computers in a big box where the passenger normally would sit which
required us to remove the passenger seat ... so I remember long
days/nights of riding on top of that box with my feet on the dash and
laptop in my lap trying to diangose and tune and fix things out on the
road. We'd be out there at night and when you bounce around in these
trucks which are not designed to have a smooth ride, you can't see
your fingers, you can't steer the mouse, your butt starts hurting
about 5 minutes into it ... ahh those were the days. :-)

Would now be a good to push for setting (again) ...

 sim

as default in the preference file ?

I picked 30 because I argee that anyrhing over 30 is a waste
...unless bragging about computer speed, of course, :)...
It makes autopilot behavior and tuning much easier (for me at
least ) , and can be easily changed if a user doesn't like it ...

Hmm. That seems to make the stuttering worse here, even at 50hz. But perhaps
the interdependence of the autopilot and the frame rate needs fixing.

And , of course , I'm still hoping for a multiplayer
sim/model/texture property putting that on my Xmas wish list :)

Yup, I'm with you on this one.

No. Anything over the sync rate of the monitor is a waste, but there is a
visible
difference between 30 and 60.

Really, vsync should be the default.

ok,60 then ?
I mentioned this change because I'd much rather have a constant framerate (as
much as possible) ,and I now have a system that can actually run FG at 30 fps
:). On my old system it would go from 8 to 60 depending on scenery , etc .
OSG doesn't vary as much, but I have to admit PLIB looks nicer, cleaner
crisper textures , proper size splash screen , and so on
AND , this was a change I could actually do something about instead of having
to ask someone to do it for me :)
Cheers
