I checked some airports the last days. You can not say that FlightGear
or X-Plane data is accurate and the rest of the mapping world is
missing the points. It does not depend on aviation or not. A lot of
runways are misplaced, and I am just asking about the reason. Maybe one
of the reasons is that apt.dat is based on old analog imagery, not
 available anymore.

I like to think that the positional errors of many (most non US?)
aerodromes are due to mistakes made when changing from one datum to
another. Errors in runway orientation at unmodifed airfields (with
default layouts) appear to be caused by confusion between magnetic and
true bearings, with magnetic being used as true. Not a major problem
where magnetic variation is low but an error nonetheless.

[Flightgear-devel] rallye-MS893 MP animations patch (against current GIT)

2010-06-13 Thread Martin Fenelon
Hello,

I wonder if it would be in order to submit a small patch for the fabulous

When two or more of these aircraft are together on MP, animations on my
aircraft, canopy opening for example, are also seen on all others. This
patch fixes this behaviour.

Kind regards.

[Flightgear-devel] rallye-MS893 torque and slipstream patch

2010-06-13 Thread Martin Fenelon
Hello Patrice,

Didn't realise you are the famous WooT :-)

Hope you don't mind but I have another small patch to fix what looks like
a simple typo.

The torque and slipstream effects appear to be in the wrong sense.
Application of power should cause a roll and yaw to the left with that
particular prop. At present this is reversed.

Kind regards.

[Flightgear-devel] EGNW apt.dat corrections and additions

2008-08-03 Thread Martin Fenelon
Hello,

I've just sent the following minor corrections to Robin Peel for inclusion
in the next update.

EGNW (Wickenby) [810 format, Unix line endings].

http://awaywiththepixies.org.uk/pub/FlightGear/Aerodromes/EGNW/EGNW-20080802.dat

Summary of changes:
1. Runways - default position/length/orientation corrected (UK AIP)
2. Windsock - removed four defaults and correctly placed one unlit
3. Tower - add tower viewpoint + prevent auto drawing of tower
4. Light Beacon - add dummy green+white beacon to prevent auto creation
5. Taxiways/Apron - basic structure added
6. Comms - Wickenby Radio A/G frequncy added

Reference data used (AIP) is freely available via UK/JAA NATS sources:
 http://www.nats-uk.ead-it.com/aip/current/ad/EGNW/EG_AD_2_EGNW_en.pdf

A few points are worth a mention. The runway surface is listed as being
concrete although photographs seem to indicate otherwise. I contacted
the operating company concerned who did indeed confirm that the runway
surface is now asphalt. Markings are a little odd looking too. Their
runway is actually a runway marked within an old runway. Officially
declared distances are all within those markings with no under or
overrun, despite what looks suspiciously like displaced thresholds for
03 and 34. The old eastern taxiway terminates rather abruptly as what
remains of it is now a public road.

EFVA is progressing nicely.

It this the right place to make such postings?

Kind regards.

Martin Fenelon.

1. Which version of TaxiDraw should I be using? I've been working with a

2. Should I submit apt.dat format 810?

3. Runway markings: The runway in question has edge, centreline and

will visual markings have everything I need?

I have finally got my head round the basics of taxidraw and added some

Next in the list are Wickenby (EGNW), Sherburn in Elmet (EGCJ), Sturgate
(EGCS) and possibly Waddo (EGXW) which looks a bit bare.

Incidentally, I'm having trouble finding any official document defining
the true bearing of Sturgate's runway, so if anyone can help...
