It is still broken in plib, the "windscreen" is not transparent like in osg.

Needs a bit of work to make the animations right. Hmm - don't know what's
required right now - but I could perhaps do it tomorrow sometime.

Lot's and lots of vertices, and no easier to fly than the original!

If Durk can give us a little time?

In general, the model looks great, despite a few animations that don't seem to
work entirely correctly. I'm sure that not many first time users will notice
that, because this bird is hard to fly. :-)

I'm currently waiting for a few more clean-ups in the new scenery, so I don't
think the base package will be ready before bedtime today. So that gives a
little more breathing space. I would propose one of four possible options:

1) Use the Sopwith Camel as is
2) If possible, use the Camel with a few modified animations
3) Stick with the bleriot, but hack a /sim/rendering/aircraft-shadows property
into the aircraft config file, which disables aircraft shadows (still risky,
and not very elegant)
4) Choose an entirely different historic aircraft from the 1910-1920s era.

I have a slight preference for either option 1 or 2, but ultimately, I go with
your (and your co-authors) recommendation.

As far as I can tell, choosing the appropriate historical aircraft is the last
remaining issue that needs to be resolved. I think we're really close to
releasing now. If I have the opportunity and we have consensus, I'll roll up
the tar files tomorrow morning, if not, it's going to be on saturday at the
latest.

Cheers,
Durk

Hello AJ,

To me, without the OSG, it remains a nice model, it suit very well with plib.
In order to be easier to start with command line "--aircraft= "the
sopwithCamel-set.xml could be linked to the YASim FDM and not to the
LARCSim. (heavy to write --aircraft=sopwithCamel-YASim )

Regards

Hi Durk,

I'd be very happy to see the Camel getting some exposure, but my only worry is
that it was developed for OSG... it doesn't use any particularly special
OSG-only effects, but last time I looked some of the control animations were
broken in PLIB.

They work perfectly in OSG, and of course we could probably rewrite them for
plib, but I don't think I'll have time in the next day or two :-( Unless
Vivian can?

Cheers,

AJ

[Flightgear-devel] Bleriot -> Sopwith Camel?

2007-12-13 Thread Durk Talsma
Gentlemen,

In light of some recently uncovered problems related to the bleriot, how about
making a last minute decision to replace it with the sopwith camel? The
bleriot seemed to be a nice touch, as it was the oldest aircraft next to the
WrightFlyer. The sopwith, while being slightly newer and a few MBs larger
than the bleriot, seems to be a lot more mature.

I just checked the aircraft, and can confirm that it doesn't segfault by
switching on aircraft shadows.

Cheers,
Durk
