SNIP
 - vary callsign TACAN id
 - support more than just KC135 and KA6 tanker
 - support helicopter refueling (i.e. configurable airspeed)
 - fly refueling pattern(?)
 - avoid collisions with mountains

The Handley Page Victor K2 is not too far from completion. It already has
the ability to act as Multiplayer tanker

That's great news. I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

It might be worthwhile creating a low-poly model for use as an AI tanker.

That's done. (Even a bit overengineered. ;-)

  - support more than just KC135 and KA6 tanker
  - support helicopter refueling (i.e. configurable airspeed)

or generally:
- allow aircraft to define ideal type/model/speed/altitude, so
that tanker.nas could find one in its built-in properties
  list

  - fly refueling pattern(?)
  - avoid collisions with mountains

More TODOs:
- react to turbulences
- avoid cloud layers

The Handley Page Victor K2 is not too far from completion. It already has

Wonderful. As Stuart mentiond, a stripped down AI for tanking purposes
might be a good idea, one that is guaranteed to exist, which the full
model isn't. In any case, I could check for that, and the user could
set this in his/her preferences: prefer full (or AI) model if available.
