[Flightgear-users] A few questions

2005-06-22 Thread Kristin
Ok folks,

I have the 0.9.8a windows version working 50% stable
on my PC. I have even been able to find Lampson field
1O2 in Lake County CA! However there are several
errors showing up on the FGFS dos window.

For instance I am flying from Sonoma Valley 0Q3 with
aircraft pa28-161 and I get the following message.

Failed to find runway 28R at airport 0Q3
WARNING: Legacy engine definition in YASim
configuration file. Please fix.

Sonoma has runway # 07x, 17x, 25, 35 I left the runway
on default. Do I need to specify the runway?

How do I fix the YASim engine problem?

If I select location/position in air and specify
Lampson 1o2 I get this error.

Unknown runway code 07x passed to
GetReverseRunwayNo(...)
Failed to find runway 07x at airport 0Q3
WARNING: Legacy engine definition in YASim
configuration file. Please fix.
Failed to find runway 28 at airport 1o2
Failed to find a good runway for 1o2

WARNING: Legacy engine definition in YASim configur

I also have seen something about stability % once or
twice and the aircraft was not managable at all.

I don't know how this works under Unix but in the
flightgear wizard there is an advanced button and I
am also unable to modify any of the parameters under
the General heading. For instance it shows the
airport, aircraft and runway but I cannot enter
another airport etc...

Is there a file I need to edit to change the default
startup values? I would like to fly out of Lakport CA
Lampson field as I know the area pretty well now I
have been here 6 years. It's kind of a pain to keep
having to position back to 1O2/Lampson everytime I
start the program.

Another weird thing was I saw something in the FGFS
dos window about missing scenery like tall
buildings/skyscrapers, HA we don't even have 10 foot
of railroad track in this county let alone
skyscrapers. I didn't know there was anywhere in the
US that didn't have a few rail lines but Lake county
has none. I came from New Jersey and there were rail
lines everywhere.

Anyone know what 10 degree segment has north New
Jersey on it? I could download that instead as I am
also familiar with most of NJ from NY border to about
Trenton east to west.

I am looking to learn some basics of flying, perhaps
getting a student permit a year or so from now and
would really like to get FG working with a good set of
data that is in an area I know from the ground.

Thanks,
Kristin

You don't have to. Use --runway= if you want

How do I fix the YASim engine problem?

You don't: it's down to the aircraft developer for that particular model

If I select location/position in air and specify
Lampson 1o2 I get this error.

Unknown runway code 07x passed to

There is, (system.fgfsrc), but that's not easy for beginners: fgrun will do
everything you need.

Another weird thing was I saw something in the FGFS

Use --disable-random-objects.

No - use the graphical scenery download interface.

I am looking to learn some basics of flying, perhaps

FGFS is a good route to go down. Try using the Hunter first off - that's
probably the easiest to fly, if your hardware is up to it. Otherwise use the
default aircraft. But you'll have to get used to the prop effects.

Basically you have a working 0.9.8a system, so far as I can see. Ignore the
warnings and learn to fly.

Vivian

plenty of data out there including manuals available on CD.

OK, fine. I'll do the Canberra. Three of them live around here, though
on is at the Smithsonian and not on display. They don't let people look
at those anymore. Unfortunately these are all RB-75 a's and b's which
have the greenhouse cockpit. None of the american versions had the I8
cockpit layout but maybe I can get some useful data. At the least I can
take some reference shots of the landing gear.

Re: [Flightgear-users] Re: the nimitz_demo HOW??

2005-06-22 Thread JB

Okay, so I commented out all but one scenario (nimitz_demo) took out
pathnames and extensions, and still no Nimitz. Is there anything else
in preferences.xml that needs to be defined, modified etc., - do I have
to fly a specific aircraft - what am I doing wrong?

JB

ai
  enabled type="bool" true/enabled
!--- Demo Mode: Comment to disable --
  scenarionimitz_demo.xml/scenario
  scenarioaircraft_demo.xml/scenario
  scenariothunderstorm_demo/scenario
  scenarioship_demo/scenario
/ai

You can only run one AI scenario at a time. You can, however, combine bits
from other scenarios into one scenario file.

The file for your scenario must be in the directory data/Data/AI. You don't
include the extension. For example:

 ai
   enabled type="bool" true/enabled
   scenarionimitz_demo/scenario
 /ai

Maybe you have to enable the ai-traffic?
To get the uss nimitz, I wrote the following to my preferences.xml.

ai-traffic
   enabled type=booltrue/enabled
   level type=int1/level
 /ai-traffic

ai
   enabled type=booltrue/enabled

Well, ai-traffic is enabled just as in your example.  If the nimitz is
there, it must be that new stealth carrier ;-/ cause I don't see it in
the bay or off shore.  Where exactly should I look for it.

Very strange.

You can use the output on the command line, or better: in a ~/.fgfsrc file,

Yep, I do usually rtfm first :)

The XML method is preferred for joysticks nowadays. The --prop:/ command
is still very useful for other settings.

Could I modify it to produce xml output instead?

Who could stop you? ;-) Yes, that's probably a good idea, maybe have both
ways and a switch to select (--xml or --prop or something).

OK, I have an fgjs.cxx producing working --xml --prop outputs (and the
obligatory --help).
I also added a --deadband float option, as simply breathing on my joystick
seems to count as moving an axis without it, also confirmation for each
control that it was the control you wished to move/press, on the basis that
starting over is more annoying that pressing 'y' 16 times.
I tweaked the available controls a bit too (mainly added some).
Any preferences for submission?

Re: [Flightgear-users] Re: the nimitz_demo HOW??

2005-06-22 Thread JB

Okay, I can now see the Nimitz! I had to choose the Hunter (carrier
capable) aircraft before it would show. The question I now have is:
Why? I know, I know, you can't land a T38 on a carrier, so why should
it show. But that's not the point, I specified that it be there, it
should be there regardless of the type of AC I've chosen.

I guess the next question is: Where is it defined that the carrier
show when flying a specific AC? A quick cursory examination of the
Hunter xml file showed nothing specific to the Nimitz Demo, nor does
the Nimitz demo specify a specific craft, so where is it? I mean,
maybe I want to TRY and land a C172 on the carrier (seems more than
possible to me), or even a T38 (baracade?) ... or the Concorde even
just for giggles :-))

Can you specify the carrier as your "airport" and do cat launches?

So, are the other AI's AC dependent? Sailboat; T-Storm; Refueling...?

Thanks for the help!

[Flightgear-users] Another question or 2

2005-06-22 Thread Kristin
From the last reply I got it seems I should ignore the
dos window warnings etc.. unless the program is not
working at all. I know most uf the users are running
unix/linux but I can't seem to get a distro of any
form of Linux to run on my PC and work worth anything.
So a few more questions. Can anyone on the list
Please, tell me how to set up FG so the default
airfield is 1o2 Lampson field, with a working runway?

I noticed today if I reloaded all the items under the
debug menu it looked like I had a semi-realistic look
at Clearlake and some structures on the ground.
Problem was the Dos window was showing it could not
find the stuff for engine controls etc. The C-172 was
all over the place and it was uncontrolable. Just some
hints as to what files to edit, xml or ???

I would really like to know how to launch the program
and not have to go through 37 steps before I got
flying where I want to. I see there are some flight
plans already in FG so could someone cobble one
together and post it here or e-mail me at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] with an answer.

Also does anyone know if the ATLAS add-on can be
installed. Again I tried booting Linux Slax Linux live
and was unable to do anything with the *.tgz file or
the unpacked (with winrar) files.

Thanks,
Kristin
