FLUXLIST: new york, new york

2000-11-15 Thread m. mcdonough

ahhh, it's 37 degrees in ohio right. i was wondering if you kindly folks
could help me out. i am a college student, in january i will be moving to
new york to dedicate my spring semester to being an art intern. but my
advisor in new york is having a difficult time placing me with an artist or
gallery because i'm just so damn idealistic.

i like the sound of a co-operative gallery, but i don't want some place that
is co-operative only for financial benefits. i'm fascinated by the idea of
art in community and how artists can form their own communities. can any of
you think of a truelly productive and co-operative gallery in the city,
where the members work together towards common goals?

i also think that art should be fun. i think that humor draws people in,
wakes them up, reminds them to be alive. i like going out into the streets,
surprising people with unexpected objects, actions, etc. can you think of
anyone who i would enjoy working with?

i'm just a hick from new hampshire and don't know much about you city folk.
but i like to smile a real lot. and i like to make art. and i's got blue
hair. so, so, so, so i'm just fluxin about this ol' life.

mon dieu. i do tend to go on and on.

turkeys and tattoos,

FLUXLIST: fluxus dining

2000-09-14 Thread m. mcdonough

a fellow named timothy porges said:
My point is, everything is different now. old fluxus is: the cold war,
snailmail art (this one is subject to rediscovery, like lithography),
happy food fests (rirkrit has already rediscovered this one),

i'm taking this college course in the 'emerging arts department' called
'external sources of inspiration'. and my proffessor was going to interview
rirkrit this weekend. i'm curious about the fluxus happy food fests you
site as rirkrit's rediscovery. has rirkrit ever stated a fluxus influence?
could you tell me more about fluxus feasting of yore? i being young and
curious would like to share in your fluxish knowledge.

bunnies and fluff,

FLUXLIST: a certain state of being

2000-04-22 Thread m. mcdonough

en francais:
   etre=to be
je suisnous sommes
tu es vous etes
on est ils/elles sont

   art=art

in english:
   to be=ser
i am we are
you arethou art
one is they are

   art=being

espagnol
   ser=to be
yo soy .

The verb TO BE can easily be omitted from any
languages and the followers of Count Korgybski have done this, eliminating
the verb TO BE in English. However, it is difficult to tidy up the
English language by arbitrary exclusion of concepts which remain in
force so long as the unchanged language is spoken.

FLUXLIST: what the fluxbunnies are up to

2000-04-07 Thread m. mcdonough

dear fluxbunnies,

i'm in a constant state of trying to catch up with all the fluxmessages that
grace my inbox. but i wanted to respond to someones post about what we've
all been up to with our own art. i'm a college student, new to the ideas of
fluxus, fluxlist and mail art. a month or so ago, i was asked to do
something to gain noteriety for an art class. so i hired a publicist. the
first effort of our ad campaign is in the form of posters. and the
reactions have been very interesting. there are 5 posters in the series,
all with a picture of me, my name, and a short slogan. let me demonstrate
in text:
MEGAN One Bad Ass Bitch
MEGAN She's Addicted to Coffee
MEGAN She Can Tell Your Fortune with MMs
MEGAN This is her Gangsta Rap Statement
MEGAN Cuter than your Girlfriend

So since i've playing with the idea of fame with out talent, and having a
lot of fun i wanted to open up this possiblity to others. enter mail art
project. Here's a copy of the call i've been sending out:
ADVERTISE YOURSELF!
Gain Noteriety! What's your slogan? What do you want to be remembered for?
Exploit yourself. I'm looking for self advertisements. Any size, any
format. Specific mode of documentation undetermined at this time. Random
return. Deadline September 1st. For more information and current address
after May 14th e-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
SEND ART BEFORE MAY 14TH TO:
Megan McDonough OCMR 2036
135 W Lorain St.
Oberlin, OH 44074 USA

I would be delighted if any of you fun fluxbunnies would like to
participate. if you would like a snail mail invitation postcard with a copy
of one of my posters, drop me a line in the ol' e-mailbox.

I am not technologically advanced in many ways, but i would like to put up a
webpage to continue my quest for fame. can any of you recomend a simple and
free place to host a webpage? i would just like to be able to direct people
to more information about me. take this one step futher...

love and mangoes,
megan
