It's specific to the input XML and the output XSL-FO required.

Get your XSL-FO right first & then make a XSLT file to convert the XML into
your expected output.

Look at docs\examples\markers\ in your fop directory for an xml/xsl pair to
see how this works.

XML is a FOP input format.

You can use XSLT + XML to create XSL-FO dynamically.
This is a good start (although you will need to use it to create XSL-FO not
HTML):
